When is best time for an entrepreneur to get married?

An entrepreneur asks if he should finish his hotel project in Cameroon before marrying. The speaker argues businesses never finish, they only evolve and break. Marriage gives you emotional energy and balance to run better, not less, so don't wait for perfect conditions that will never come.

I think— I would say it really depends. I would ask entrepreneurs to look at their goal first. I actually have a mentorship, you know, a group mentorship class earlier today. And I have a young lady in my group, Winnie, which have a very— this big, huge project in Cameroon. She actually planned to open a huge, huge, huge— Hotel. organization there. And in one of her goals she mentioned today was that, I want to, for the, the, within the next 5 years, I want to make sure I accomplish this goal before I get married, because I want to make sure I spend time and focus on this. I don't want to focus on so many things. Mm-hmm. Uh, that's one angle. Um, that, that really intrigued me. Uh, I love it. Uh, I would say, wow. What a defined goal. What a defined plan for life. And on the other hand, if you want your business to be perfect, good before you marry, you're never going to get married. Trust me. Business, the moment you think it's good, that's when it collapses. So, you can build the biggest one and it's going to collapse again. And then you build another one and it's going to collapse. Business is just part of our life. Business, for businessmen, I'm sure if you're a business person, you're listening to me, it's just who you are. Mm-hmm. Uh, you know, it go up and down, up and down. It's never gonna be like, bam, perfect. No. Uh, so if you are really 21 and you have a business, you have a source of income, and you can take care of a queen, I will challenge you to get one and start working on her as well. Because the business is just something you'll be working on until you die. Uh, until you die. Uh, we don't retire. Businessmen— I never hear a businessman who say, I'll retire next year. No, we do business until we die. This is not a job. This is who we are. Businessman is the person who step back and say, you know what, I want to take care of people. I want to serve the massive number of people. Mm-hmm. I want to make people life better. I want to facilitate things for a massive number of people. And you can't do that until a certain point. And as long as you are serving, you get more problems. That's why business always collapses, because the problem is going to get bigger and bigger and bigger and maybe more complex with the growth of technology and more trouble we are creating in the world. So I would say when there's a time to get married, just get married. Just forget about everything. This is just life. It's going to be your life. Business is your life. Um, I remember when I started business, I said, well, I want to make sure I have the same thing. I want to make sure I'm doing well and then I get married. No, it's not like you have a business that you, when you're done with that, you go and start another life. And then when you get married, it's also another project. Mm-hmm. It's another, set of projects that you start working on. When you carry all both together, you enjoy more. While you enjoy the business, you can enjoy the family life also. And it really helps because you even have a place where you break away from business. You can fall back into it and really, really enjoy. One thing I could say, my biggest, biggest strength today is really my family. It doesn't matter how tough my day is. When I think about my wife, you know, it's like I just get more energy. And when I rush home, the kids run and my wife, I forget about the whole business mess and just enjoy them. That's cool. So, I believe every businessman should even get married because I don't know how you're going to do it. Sometimes you just want to break. break away from business. Don't want to hear about it anymore. You just want to leave. You want to enjoy the family. So, uh, I think, uh, you know, any businessman, whatever, if you're already 21, get married.
