TikTok Is Getting Banned... (Here's How To Go Viral Before It Happens)

Two creators break down three TikTok growth tactics: reposting successful videos with new file names to avoid shadow-bans, testing longer formats since TikTok favors 3-minute and 10-minute videos, and using stitches and trending features for algorithmic boost. They reference a 500K-view repost and warn against relying on paid promotions.

Yo, today we're going to be watching a video called How to Actually Go Viral on TikTok in 2024 as a Small Creator. Now, I wanted to give my two cents on what this guy is saying and see how legit it actually is.
If you're new to TikTok and believe that there's no way to go viral, then this video is for you, especially if you're a small creator. So I'll show you 3 growth hacks.
So TikTok is kind of weird as it's almost random. It's not completely random, but it's almost random that you go viral on TikTok. A lot of times people are not trying to go viral and they end up going viral, like millions and millions of views. And it goes for everyone across the board, even small creators. You can have a viral pop-off. But the thing with that is a lot of times you just get like, you go viral, but you don't always necessarily get a lot of interaction or engagements or follows. So let's keep watching.
Strategies that are guaranteed to make you go viral at least once. Guaranteed. You can think, and I've used all of these strategies to reach millions of followers and to help my students grow and reach hundreds of thousands of followers as well. So enough talking and let's go. So strategy number 1, repost your own videos. But what do you mean by that? Well, it's not as simple as it sounds because there are some rules you have to follow. First of all, you have to repost every 5 to 10 posts, whatever makes you feel more comfortable, because many creators are afraid of reposting. But why should you repost? Well, by reposting your own content, and I mean the videos that have already done well, well, this way you increase the possibilities of getting a lot of views again and even potentially going viral. I've had—
Okay, so this is basing it off of organic reach. So if the algorithm sees that people are liking your video, if you post that same exact video, more than likely it's gonna get the same amount of views or even more. So the people honestly decide what goes viral more than the algorithm does. Um, and this goes for all the platforms. Like if you find something or a topic or a video that does well, it doesn't matter how many times you post it, it's probably gonna do well every single time. So if you have some old videos that have done well, if you have a video that went to a million views like 4 or 5 months ago, repost the video because it'll probably go to a million views again. That goes for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, all of the above. So repurpose your content that way it's not just sitting there dying in a hard drive and let it live longer.
With 500K views that I reposted after a few days.
This also goes for paying for— if you ever boost a post, make sure it does good organically before you boost it, because if it doesn't work organically, then it will not work whenever you pay for the views.
So it got 20 million views, my most viral video ever, and it's basically already proven to work. But make sure to not delete the original video. Deleting videos is bad already on its own, and deleting a video that has done well, it's even worse. Might lead to shadowbans, and it signals the algorithm that, hey, something's going on with this page. And I wouldn't recommend reposting a video that you uploaded in the past 3 to 5 days. And the best way to repost, it's not by downloading it through the TikTok app, nor by re-uploading the same file again. What you should do is either grab the original file or download the TikTok using SnapTik, then open a third-party editor like CapCut, InShot, Adobe Premiere Pro, and export the video again with a different file name. You can even try a different format. This basically makes the video new. But make sure to try the next strategy as well, because it might be a game changer. Let's go. So strategy number 2 is trying different length formats. Lately TikTok is trying to push longer and longer videos.
TikTok is trying to honestly take over every single platform. They're trying to be the YouTube, they're trying to be the Instagram, they're trying to be TikTok all at the same time.
3-minute videos, 10-minute videos, and now they're even—
that's why I'm not the biggest fan of TikTok—
60-second+ videos. With the TikTok Creativity Program, This tells us that TikTok promotes longer videos. If you make short videos, I would highly recommend you to try and make longer ones.

Because the algorithm might pick it up and promote it to a large amount of audience. Especially if you're a new creator, it's the best time for research and experimentation. And of course, you should keep in mind that Every single page is different. Maybe for me, longer format content works better, and for you, shorter videos work better. I was making videos around 50 seconds before TikTok was pushing all that and had a ton of viral videos. But there is a key difference between these two. If you can keep the viewers' attention for at least 30 seconds, then try longer videos. I was making 50-second videos and the viewer retention was around 30 seconds, and I got millions of views on all these videos. Even the 20 million video I was talking about, that was also 50 seconds long. One focuses on how many seconds you can keep the viewer hooked, and the other one focuses on if you can make the viewer watch the whole video and maybe a little bit more. And since we're talking about TikTok's features, the last one might be the reason you go viral. Let's see. Strategy number 3 is—
so retention rates are huge. So whenever you're starting, if you're doing a long-form video, get to the point. Nobody cares. Nobody wants to listen to you talk about why you're talking about what you're talking about. Out all the filler information at the beginning. Make sure to get straight to the point because that's why they clicked on the video.
TikTok's features. So like we said, there are some features that TikTok is always pushing more. Using TikTok's features in general helps you go viral because TikTok loves when people are using its features. So that's why it's better to upload through a mobile device instead of a laptop. And of course, there are features that TikTok is pushing more at specific periods of time. These are called trending features. Utilizing the trending features increases the possibility chance of going viral even more. But if they don't fit your niche, you don't have to worry because using any other TikTok feature also does a lot. I've gone viral multiple times with stitches. TikTok wasn't really pushing stitches. I just had an idea of stitching other people—
don't sleep on the stitches—
with videos of people just, you know, pointing at the title and then showing random pictures with a story. And I was explaining that story. I was either giving a backstory to what the people were saying or correcting the story or just adding to the story. It could true crime, history, or anything interesting in general. And you can do that in any niche, and it's always entertaining to watch. And that was the way I revived my account. But if you can find a trending TikTok feature that you can use in your niche, then you're lucky because you just got into the hype train.
For trending, follow the trends, people, especially at the beginning. Find something that's trending within your niche, within your category that you're talking about. And then make a video on it reacting to it. That's literally what I'm doing right now because TikTok is kind of coming up and it's kind of being a big deal right now. There's talks of it being banned from the United States as of January 19th, 2025. I believe they're taking it to court, but if it gets banned, you better believe we are riding that trend train because there's going to be billions of people impacted by this.
For example, lately TikTok is pushing its—
and that's what we do. We help people with their social media, we do consulting, we help with their podcasts and their strategy for their business doing that stuff. And so it's a big deal, it's a big deal, especially when that's somebody's entire business model which is surrounded around getting leads through social media.
And specifically the ones that are some kind of games. So people will usually hook with a random title, like if I win this game it means blank, or my cousin couldn't beat this game because of blank. And I've tried clicking on not interested in these videos and the algorithm just kept pushing them to me. So that's what I mean, that TikTok's features can be powerful. It can get you to the TikTok Creativity Program and you can try and make these type of videos 1 minute long and make a lot of money. And if you want to learn more about all that, you can download my Creator Playbook.

Make sure to watch this video next where you will learn how to get 1,000 followers on TikTok.
1,000 followers. Okay, so what a good video. A lot of it makes sense. Some of it is kind of, um, I don't know, condescending, uh, maybe some older ideas and tactics. He didn't go into super depth, um, about this stuff, which is fine. It's a 5-minute YouTube video. But, uh, we're definitely going to be talking about this kind of stuff more and how to go viral, how to create a video from start to finish, because we've been involved in many, many projects where our videos went viral. And it was usually, most of the time, the most simple videos that were the most relatable. And so we've gotten accounts to go viral whenever they had 50 followers on Instagram, for example, and that video now has like 40 or 50,000 views. Now, for a channel that size, we consider that viral, okay? And it was the most basic video, um, with like— it was like 5 seconds. And so that just opened up my eyes. That was one of the first times that we were involved in something like that, and it just has happened multiple times where it doesn't really make sense. But now we're starting to see the patterns develop in this kind of thing, um, and each platform is a little bit different. So you want to stay on the lookout. Make sure to join the Howdy Insiders group to learn more about this stuff. Um, yeah, we'll, we'll be making more videos like this, reacting to different things, so stay on the lookout and we will see you guys in the next video.
