Why I don't want a $10M business

Daron Pacheco explains why he's not chasing a $10 million business. He sees wealth as stewardship of God's resources, not an idol, and argues that true freedom matters more than revenue targets. Endless grinding and greed-driven hustle culture miss the point of entrepreneurship.

The last thing that I want to do with my business is grow it to a $10 million company. And, you know, that kind of surprises people. Whenever I am discussing finances and the financial side of things for business, it reminds me of how greed and hustle culture Have corrupted the minds of so many business owners in this country. Although wealth is needed and money is needed, you have to draw a fine line between, okay, this is stewardship and this is greed. And when it comes to being an entrepreneur, I feel like this is one of the biggest fights That we all go through if you're a believer. Because, you know, the, the love of money is the root of all evil, right? And that's what we hear all growing up. It's like, don't make money, don't make money, don't make money. But what I have started learning is it's not your money, it's not my money. It's the Lord's money, and so you are just being used as a vessel to control this money and steward this money. Once you can make that switch, because the whole thing is greed is is making money your idol. In America, we prioritize materialistic things. Over spiritual things. And, and we've grown to a point to be so deceived by the enemy that this is all people are consumed by. Of course you want to make a profit in your business. You should make a profit in your business. You should multiply the things happening in your business. You should be taking the money that you have and through good stewardship multiplying that. That is what you're called to do as a faith-based entrepreneur. And if you're not a faith-based entrepreneur, then maybe look into some scripture and see what scripture says about money, because it is mind-blowing. Once you can flip this switch, there's a lot of things that happen, one of them being the pressure and the burden that comes with entrepreneurship disappears. You realize you're not in control. And at the end of the day, there's going to be things that happen that are out, completely out of your control, like things that you would never imagine. And so like running a business with all of this as a burden on your chest And on your shoulders can be absolutely exhausting mentally, physically. You can work yourself literally to death. And culture right now is saying, hey, if you want to be successful, whatever successful means, you have to grind it out. You have to chase the bag. You have to go and work 120 hours a week. so that you can be successful and that it's a sacrifice. Although there is some truth to that, it doesn't need to be the truth of why you're doing what you're doing. And I only say this because I have gone through this transition in my own walk as an entrepreneur. And one of my goals is to have conversations about this stuff because there's not enough conversations being had from believers, from Christians. Like, maybe you're called to be an entrepreneur to fund the kingdom. The church cannot last and cannot thrive if there is no funds. If nobody is out there providing value in the marketplace with the gifts the Lord has given them, there will be no value added to society as far as monetary stuff goes. And so entrepreneurship and ministry— or I say ministry, your life should be ministry— but the church go hand in hand. And there are so many similarities because I have been working in both simultaneously for, I mean, almost the past 10 years. I've always kind of been entrepreneurial. I've always wanted to start my own business. I've also always wanted to lead worship and work in a church. And so I had always been told that it is not really that possible to do both. And so, I mean, for the last 5 years, I have been working at my church. It's not full-time, but I'm serving, I'm leading, and I'm also running a business. And it's, it's crazy to me how many things Align and they're parallel and you run into the same things. You have to deal with people, you have to deal with flesh, you have to deal with greed, you have to deal with people stealing, you have to deal with people leaving, hiring, firing, managing teams, managing people, coming up with a marketing plan. All of these things are so much in alignment. And if you're in an entrepreneur kind of person, you've probably wrestled with this idea too. Because some people think like, oh, maybe I should just stop trying to pursue business, stop trying to pursue money because I don't want to serve it. I don't want to— I don't want anything to do with it so I can just go full-time into ministry. And I'm like, yeah, but like, if it's burning in your spirit and your soul to go and build these things, Like, then that's what you're called to do. You can do both. You can do both. You can serve at a high level in both areas. Like, you serve your clients in your business and you serve the church if you're part of a ministry. I could talk about that all day long. Um, But that's kind of where I wanted to go, and I don't even—I—I kind of got off on a tangent here. But this is this is the whole reason why I don't want a ten million dollar business. That's right. That's where I was going. Very confusing. Sorry. Thanks for following me in a circle. The money isn't the goal for me. The freedom is the goal. The fact that. I am able to pay my bills, the fact that I'm able to have some leftover, the fact that I'm able to— hey, if I want to take off 3 days next week, nobody can tell me I can't do that. Because even though we don't make $10 million a year, we have built it up enough to be able to continue to do the things that the Lord has called us to do. In serving capacities. Now, do I believe there are plans in the future? Because God is a God of abundance. Do I believe there are plans in the future to where, hey, we're— the Lord is gonna give you responsibility of more of his money so that you can help more monetarily? 100%, I do believe that. And so whatever comes and happens, I mean, it's gonna happen. But I— the heart of it, the whole journey, it doesn't matter the amount of money that you have, the amount of money that you give. Um, there's a story out of scripture where, um, there's a woman who is broke, has zero, almost zero dollars to her name, but whenever she gives her offering, it's, it's a few pennies. And Jesus sees this and basically says like, hey, like she— this— these few pennies are worth more because the heart behind it is pure. The type of faith that that takes is tremendous. Whereas if you're putting $5,000, you know, tithing $5,000 But you're making $100,000 a month, you know, which is crazy. Some people do. It doesn't really hurt you. It doesn't really take any sacrifice. And so the heart behind it all, the heart behind giving and making money, you know, I think if you can constantly remind yourself that, hey, this is not an idol. Money is not an idol, but it's a resource and a tool to further the kingdom of God. I think that's, that's where you're going to get into a good place of where your heart's at and where your soul's at. And there's going to be things that happen to you, pressures that don't exist anymore, burdens that don't, don't exist anymore. Like these things that you think you're in control of, but you're really not. That's been the biggest thing that I've learned the past, you know, 5 years, and hopefully a lot more to come. Hopefully I can, you know, look back in another 5 years and have a similar idea. It's probably going to be different because, you know, trials happen, things happen. But hopefully it's closer to the heart of the Lord. And so if you're a faith-based business owner and You know, I don't know about you, but I have at times felt very alone in this journey. And I feel like sometimes, again, just what, like what we talked about for the last 10 minutes, like I feel like the ideology behind money is so crooked. And so one of the reasons that I'm doing this is to create a community of like-minded believers and individuals. Not only so that you can, you know, we can connect and we can have a community together and push each other and help each other grow and get better and steward what the Lord has given us, but also so that you can learn. Like, I want to bring guests to you and conversations to you that are going to spark creativity. That is one of my prayers for my business is that anybody who consumes our content or comes into the studio, creativity is sparked. And I believe that this has happened, and it's cool to see every time I have a conversation of somebody who comes in the studio, they're like, oh my goodness, like, I am leaving this meeting like inspired. I, I am ready to go create 30 pieces of content right now in my vehicle. And so like, and these things breeding from the content that we make from the studio and, um, all the things that I've been working towards. That's one of my goals. So send me a DM. Um, I have a couple school communities. I really don't push those a ton. Um, but more than anything, like, I just want to connect, make the connection, grow the network. Maybe I can help you, maybe you can help me. Like, let's just help each other grow and win. Thanks for watching today's episode. I know it's a little bit different from my normal stuff. Um, keep on the lookout for future episodes. We'll see you in the next one. Peace.
