Light and food timing are the two signals that control your sleep and wake cycles. Fasting and when you eat can shift you toward waking earlier, and light exposure reinforces the pattern.

You can actually use fasting and the timing of your fast as a signal to tell your body to wake up sooner or to go to bed later. It turns out there's these two things that are the predominant signals for when to wake up and when to go to sleep. One of them is light. The other one is food timing. So if you want to become a morning person, as soon as you wake up, eat something, break your fast, and this, and then have dinner much earlier. And make sure you dim your lights at night. And when you do this, over the course of just a week or two, you can shift your timing for when you naturally wake up and when you naturally go to bed. This is one of the many different ways that you can use fasting, and they're all captured in my brand new book on fasting called Fast this Way.
