This is a YouTube video titled "Olive Oil vs. Saturated Fats: Why @BryanJohnson Is All In On Olive Oil" featuring a discussion between Dave Asprey and Bryan Johnson recorded in December 2023. The content is a conversation focused on dietary fats, specifically the benefits and drawbacks of olive oil versus saturated fats, with detailed insights into fatty acid metabolism and biomarker analysis.

Olive oil versus saturated fat. As a longtime longevity guy, I went through my phase of, you know, glugging fish oil and doing lots and lots of olive oil, like from the zone diet stuff. I just eventually settled on a removing omega 6 fats, in particular, removing linoleic acid as much as I can from my diet. And so I. I do like a tablespoon or two of olive oil, but I don't go above it because of the linoleic acid. And you're doing all olive oil. And I want to understand your rationale for it, like, why. Why olive?
On topics like this, I can string words together that seemingly makes sense about this and that I don't trust that. I'm the professional pilot. And so my team has gone about, done the analysis. We've measured our biomarkers. We have. We think it makes sense with the evidence. We think it makes sense with my biomarkers. That's not to say that other things don't work better. It's just to say that we constructed what we think is the very best thing.
The. The reason I'm. I'm curious about olive oil, and a lot of listeners have been asking me to ask you that stuff. It's that when linoleic acid metabolizes, it increases delta 5 and delta 6 desaturates. And these are things that you don't want to have high in the body. So adding a lot of olive oil can increase your body's ability to make body fat. And if you have lots of olive oil only, you're still getting 14% linoleic acid. But if, like, most people have that and you eat the fried stuff at a restaurant once or twice, the monounsaturated fats are gonna drive a lot of lipid oxidation. So I ended up at, like, primarily saturated with some olive oil. And I take a hydroxytyrosol capsule, which is the primary antioxidant in olive oil, but it's equal to, like, a thousand bottles of olive oil. But I just take the pill because I would probably not feel good if I had that much olive oil.
