This is a YouTube video titled "The Hidden Pattern of Self Talk That AFFECTS Your Life" containing a discussion between two speakers about patterns of self-talk, intrusive thoughts, and the psychological impact of childhood environment and parental behavior on feelings of safety and self-perception. The content is a dialogue but does not include Alicia Mackey Huber as a participant.
Do you have voices in your head?
Almost never anymore, but I absolutely used to. And that's something that we would expect to go down significantly. Left side spectrum, less negative self talk and just less self talk in general. Right side spectrum patterns, significantly more intrusive thoughts and negative self talk. So left side spectrum, our automatic negative thoughts would be about something external or what's going to happen. Anticipation. The right side, it will be about self. The right side spectrum patterns are very naturally oriented toward thinking about self.
If you're on one side, you're gonna say it's the I am not enough side. The other side is gonna be like, the system is against me.
We need to learn that we feel safe in our environment. That means understanding the rules, understanding how to keep yourself safe and understand how to abide by the rules. And as you can imagine, to do that you'd have to have parents that follow rules, which doesn't happen very frequently. So if your parents are erratic, it doesn't take much for a child to perceive that they are not safe. Because if there is any sort of break in the structure and repet their world where they don't know how to operate and they stop trusting their parents, they get stuck there.
