How do we teach people to have an internal sense of safety so they have control? You know, so much when we think of being a victim or having a victim mindset, we think about external circumstances, but actually can be a victim to our inner world. And that's kind of a new angle on the whole thing. Don't be a victim to your past, don't be a victim to your own self esteem. You know, for those who have to feel good about themselves at all times, I worry about those people. Don't be a victim to your emotions. We are a victim to our emotions. When we think that we have to listen to our emotions immediately and we have to act on them and we don't create any separation between our consciousness and our experiential world. So that's the way I'm answering your question by saying, well, there are actually so many ways that we don't even realize that we're a victim to our inner world and we don't have to be. But at the end of the day, I want to help people self actualize and reach their full potential. And you're not doing that when you are at the beck and call of your self esteem, of your emotions, of your past, et cetera. Yalom has a great quote. Sooner or later you have to give up all hope for a better past.
