Asteroid 2024 YR4 was detected in December 2024 with a 3.1% chance of hitting Earth in 2032, the highest probability ever recorded for a newly found object. Over two months, observations from telescopes worldwide and the James Webb Space Telescope narrowed the risk to 0.004% before an all-clear on February 24, 2025. The asteroid is about 200 feet across and may instead hit the Moon.
