NASA is building Space Reactor One Freedom, a nuclear-powered spacecraft designed to reach Mars by 2029. The 20-kilowatt uranium reactor will generate electricity to power the ship faster than conventional propulsion, giving the U.S. a geopolitical edge over China and Russia. Launch is scheduled for October 2028.
