Have you ever been to a function where one person seems to dominate the conversation? They may have lots of charisma and be really interesting, or they might be a famous footballer or something like that. But in a normal networking event where there's people who are all on about the same level, people who dominate the conversation tend to be remembered for the wrong reasons. There's an old saying that goes like this: you were given 2 ears and one mouth, use them in that proportion. And never was a truer word said. When you go to a networking function, go with the purpose of listening, finding out, asking questions, be curious. That doesn't mean you just bombard people with questions, but you get into an engaging conversation where you ask things, and we'll talk about that in another video about what questions you can ask. But make sure that you listen more than you talk. The same goes in meetings, by the way. When you're in a meeting, you'll learn more by listening than you ever will by talking. I'll run that by you again because it's really important. You will always learn more by listening than you will by talking.
