I think some people miss the point when it comes to networking. They go to a networking meeting and they think that the people in the room are their prospects.
And they're right, they are.
But they miss a crucial element in my view. And that is, it's the people that the people in the room know that are where the real gems lie, where the real magic lies. So it's not a case of just getting to know the person that you meet, or letting them to know you. It's about finding out who is their ideal customer or their client, because they may well know someone who can be connected. It's called vicarious networking. And vicarious networking, that is the networking that is one step or two steps or three steps away, is where the real magic lies. So think about that when you next go to a networking event. Make sure the people you meet know who your ideal clients are, 'Cause then there's a much better chance that they're going to refer you to other people who aren't at that particular event. Good luck. Networking can be fun, but you've got to have a strategy.
