A look at the rare Target promotional CD for Zelda: Majora's Mask from 2000, which worked as both an audio disc and a PC multimedia experience. The CD included game trailers, character bios, quizzes, and wallpapers, but its Windows 2000-only software requires emulation to run today.
Bonus Stage!
On this episode of Bonus Stage, we'll be looking at this Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask promo CD from Target. I couldn't find a ton of information online about it, but basically from what I could glean, apparently this was a limited promotional item that was exclusively distributed to pre-orderers of Majora's Mask. That pre-ordered through Target, and it contains a bunch of interesting little tidbits. It works as a standard CD for some music tracks, but it also was a full-blown interactive multimedia CD you can access on a PC. So I couldn't get it to work with modern versions of Windows, so I actually used a virtual machine to emulate Windows 2000, and then I could open it. So what you're about to see is that. Content. So please enjoy. Pretty great techno track, right? Next, we'll get into some trailers for the game.
Rated E for Everyone.
So one thing I've done here for fun is I've actually taken the wallpapers from this CD and upscaled them to 1080p, and you can find a I'll put a download link to that in the description of this video if you're interested. Next you'll see there's some gameplay clips here. I was hoping for some unused or cut content, maybe some beta footage, but— It all seems to be from the final game, but you will notice some rather abrupt transitions. Next we have the music tracks, which can be accessed through a regular CD player or as follows: Pretty interesting that only a few tracks were actually Majora's Mask exclusive, and there are even some Ocarina of Time music tracks that aren't even in the game that were mysteriously included in this list. So what we have next is a few bios for characters, and eventually we'll have this quiz, which you'll see how I responded. I got one of the questions wrong at the end. It's kind of a— it's a goofily worded answer, I would say. Okay, so I got this wrong. I answered makes him run fast instead of makes him run faster. Whoops. So there you have it. Going through this, it felt like going through a piece of history and almost like a time machine of exciting things to look forward to in the year 2000. I hope you enjoyed this video. Please leave a like and a comment and hopefully subscribe if you found this valuable. I'll see you on the next one. Let's just place it there.
