My name is Elsa. I live in New York, in Harlem. I've been a foster parent for six years. I was motivated by my mother to become a foster mom. I helped her, and she fostered 75 children. One of my best experience with a child as a foster mom was when I received this child at home, and he cried. And I just told him, don't cry. Because these kids have a lot of issues between the parents and being taken away from them. You don't know what they've been through, really. So you have to really have patience right now. He is 14 years old, and he gives me the pleasure of just being around him. By me giving him the love and the caring and nurturing, he has become a young man that anybody could appreciate. Me having these foster children around me had made me a better mother for my own children. Being a foster parent is to love these kids because they are important this life. I've been supported by the agency completely. Every time I need something or I need help with something that I need to get for these children, they've been there. This agency never let me down. Never. These children need you. So please consider being a foster mom.
