Prior to joining tab, I was a partner in Arthur Young and Company, which was one of the international accounting firms, was in their consulting division. And in 1989, at the time that AY merged into Ernst and Young, I went out, opened a corporate performance group consultancy, and we added TAB as a business line to our corporate performance group in 1994. I understood the model. I like the ability to deal one on one with people, to help them help themselves in making their business both more fun to deal with as well as more valuable. In order for a TAB owner business owner to be successful, they need to have some business depth in one or more of the basic areas. Marketing, sales, human resources, finance, operations, and then more of a general business background kind of towards the rest of it. TAB members are in TAB to learn. They're in TAB to make better decisions about their business, to produce better results from their business. And the business owner's job is to help them in that journey. So the ability to understand the TAB member in his own setting, to really empathize with him and the kinds of decisions that he's having to make, those are really pretty much absolute requirements for a TAB business owner. When I joined tab, I found that not only at the corporate headquarters did they have good and smart people, but the network of TAB business owners also provided me with that kind of collaborative input that I was missing. The national meetings that we have, the committees that we serve on, the opportunities to get together and in conferences over the phone are pretty valuable to all TAB members, to all TAB business owners. And that's one of the reasons that I joined tab, and it's one of the reasons that I stayed with it as long as I have sat.
