What Do You Need to Shoot a Customer Video Testimonial? | Unboxing Video | Remote Video Testimonial

David Vogel unboxes a remote testimonial kit from Video SEO Pro that lets customers record interview-style videos in 15 minutes using an iPhone, tripod, microphone, and speaker. Clear audio matters most, and the best testimonials focus on measurable results, not generic praise.

We all know that having great online reviews, whether it's on your website or through social media, whether it's Google or whether it's on your Facebook page. I mean, think about it. I don't go to the movies without going to Rotten Tomato.
Yep.
I don't go out to a restaurant without going to Yelp. I don't go on vacation without going to TripAdvisor. And here I am looking at reviews. I know that they're unbiased, I know they're authentic, but they're complete strangers. And I'm giving credibility to that because I can see more than one of them and I can make a kind of a real honest decision based on that and take action on it. So I'm going to listen to that more than an owner maybe in a video saying how great I am. Because what owner is not going to say they're great at what they do? The ideal, I think we'd all agree, since we know how valuable video is, to have a video testimonial from a client, you know, it's real. It creates that emotional connection. You're looking and hearing real information from, you know, authentic feedback from someone who had worked with that company. Now, the challenge with that is cost to hire a professional to do something like is cost prohibitive. And then the logistics of that complexity to get some get a client. Now you have to make an ask of a client. Sure. And then actually get them to agree to go to a location, go to a studio, get filmed. It's a big ask. So we decided to try to come up with a way where we can make that really easy. And thanks to technology like smartphones, thanks to things like the Internet, we've created at Video SEO Pro, our own proprietary system where we're leveraging technology to allow people to get a authentic interview based testimonial video from a client that takes 15 minutes or less. Now, the challenge with that is we're not going to be there. Our lights are not going to be there, our cameras are not going to be there. Our sound equipment is there. So what can we do? Leverage that to get the best possible end product? Well, a couple things. One is video training that we do, but the other is what's in this box.
I can't wait.
So why don't we open this box and see what's inside all of that.
In a box that's 8 and 11, 16 by 5 and 7. 16.
That's right. It's a new iPhone 11.
So walk me.
So if I there isn't an iPhone.
11 yet if I. It'll cost probably three grand.
That's right.
So if I am someone that's going to do a video testimonial, I will receive this box.
They will receive this box.
I have a great.
In advance. You do it. A client has basically went ahead and gotten their approval and asked them if it would be alright with them to give a little bit of their time.
I will open up this box.
You can open these things up and basically they will have. There will be instructions in here which we didn't include in here today, but we'll give them a bunch of items in here and we will show them. So this is a little tripod because the last thing you want to do is have someone doing a testimonial video and they're holding it in their hand. Hard to frame the shot. It's moving around.
I have an adapter.
So why don't you open that because that's kind of like the next piece. And we'll hold off on this for right now.
Things that go on the end of the selfie sticks, we've all seen these before.
So obviously it's very hard to attach a phone to this. So you're going to screw that on.
Got it.
All right.
And like you said, this will have.
Do it the other way. Screw that onto there because that's going to come off. Right. There you go. Spin that puppy.
So this will have instructions?
Absolutely. There'll be a little how to video, of course, why not? Right. And then we would obviously put our phone on here. Now we're big fans, you know, you look at your laptop computer, you look at a TV set, the orientation is this, not this. So until everything goes away from TVs and computer screens, we want to make sure that we're shooting horizontally.
For most video platforms where the video will ultimately reside on a website or.
On any of the platforms.
Horizontal and or square is going to make the most sense anyway.
So now you have a nice little stable platform for your phone. We have a microphone. So the other thing that's a concern is when you're doing a video, 50% of the importance of a video is sound.
People don't get that.
So if you have a great looking video and we can't hear you, yeah, they're gone. If you have great sound and they can't see you, they're gone.
This is great. Easy.
Little.
Little what I call a roach clip. I don't know if that's really the actual name.
I don't think that's exactly appropriate. Alligator clip maybe was more appropriate. But just like what we have on right now. There you go.
Honestly, is what wins.
So now obviously, what's the problem here? How do you plug that puppy in? This is an iPhone 7 Plus. There we go.
Bingo.
Adapter plug. So now there's still a little bit of an issue. Now, as I mentioned to you before, if we're interviewing you remotely, because this is, we don't want to leave it to the client or the customer in this case to go, oh, you know, I love Leon. You know, his office is so nice and I love the, you know, the lamp that he built, you know, handmade lamp was awesome. And you know, his theory on, you know, marketing is really relevant today and you know, know, content marketing. I think he's great. Is that really going to get someone engaged? Is that the kind of. No, we want really? You know, we want the kind of content where someone's really talking about the results.
Yeah, sure.
The experience that they had. I worked with Leon and DSM Group and I have to tell you that, you know, our sales prior to working with them was a million dollars. And after a year working with them, we're now doing $5 million in sales.
Well, it's that authenticity that you're all exactly.
You want to know about the results. So we want to make it be interview based so we make sure that that customer is answering the right questions and telling the right story that's going to give that owner or the business the results. So we have a little bit of a problem here because we just have a mic plugged in here. But how are you going to communicate with our interviewer on the other end? Well, we need to put something else in between. We need to have a speaker so you can hear us and answer our question. So hence the hamburger. If you twist that, it'll pop open, It's a little speaker. And what we're gonna do is has a little piece here in the bottom, a little plug. You don't need that part. That's for charging. So you could save that guy for later. Again, these are all things that are actually we give as a gift. So whoever receives this can now use this for whatever they want. Use it personally, professionally.
This goes to the person that's gonna.
Do that, they keep it. This is all for them. So we're gonna put this in between.
Can you send me one?
I think we can arrange for that. So we're gonna put this guy in here. And now what we're going to do is we're going to have one. There's a little bit of icon on here. One's for speaker. So we're going to plug the speaker in here. Right. And we would turn this on. Okay. And then the other one gets plugged in there.
Look at this. That is awesome.
And now you are good to go. You now have a great HD camera. If you have some decent lighting, we'll show people where to set up in the room.
This is great.
You now sit down in front of your phone.
This is great.
And we actually ask you questions. You don't have to memorize any. Just answer questions.
And you know what you person on the other end here, the person doing the case study, feels like they're involved, which is a really important thing. Because the other thing I love about video content, and this goes back to that romanticism a little bit, is if someone films themselves and they're passionate about what they produce, guess what they're going.
To do with it?
They're going to share it.
Absolutely.
They're going to want their friends to see it. They're going to be excited about it. That's the other really great thing about video is nobody wants to say this, but everybody wants to be a star. So the idea here is that if you're enabling and empowering someone to give a video testimonial and then you're empowering them to do it themselves, first of all, this is something they're going to talk about. They're going to tell their friends about it.
Sure.
Really cool. It's really easy. And the second thing is they're going to want to share it with everybody that they know. So, you know, it's, it's, it's. That's the beauty of social media and it's the beauty of the convenience of what this is all about. I love this. Well, that's the thing in a box.
That's right.
Eight inches by five inches.
And you. And, and the customer gets to keep this. So how great is that? They want to use it on vacation. They wanted. They want to start doing their own video. So just because they're a customer of, let's say, yours. Yeah. They have custom. Everyone has customers. You know, you just work it down the line.
I'm really excited. I didn't look at this prior to. That's great unboxing. I like it because I'm really.
I got authentic told me about the.
Idea, but I didn't see it come to life. And now that I have, it's really, really cool. This is great.
There you go.
