Learning to Harmonize with Your Customers

Gerhard Gschwandtner talks with brothers Tor and Isaac Koren about using voice and body resonance to connect with customers. They map five vocal zones from your speaking voice to joy, lead you through exercises, and improvise a selling power vocal technique together.

Today we have two very, very, very special guest. Tor and Isaac, the brothers Coren.
Such a pleasure to be here with you, Gerhard. And hi to everyone listening, watching.
When I think of the world of selling would resonance comes to my mind where salespeople need to harmonize with the customer somehow and get a deal done. And I wanted to get your take from the world of music. How does it influence the salesperson's Persona, but also the buyer?
We see music and the voice, right, the human voice as kind of correlate in the sense that we need to attune to our tastes and invite ourselves to be ourselves. What we've noticed around voice is that the whole body instrument, whether you're singing or not, the way in which we sound out who we are to our customers, the way in which we share real time from our real voice, we could call that authenticity. But the way in which we relate and find one thing correlate, we can actually use music in our voice to find what is similar between us and our customer. Once we're relating to each other in that way, we're on the same team.
As a salesperson, but just as a human being. You lean on your voice heavily. It's often about an outward experience being heard, getting your point across, making the sale, closing the deal. Right. These are all outward focused. We're inviting you to first consider more of an inner relationship, an inward relationship, one that asks, how does my voice feel? Is it resonating in my body, not out of my body?
We got quite far singing in front of 20,000 people, opening for Coldplay and Pink and Rod Stewart and Bon Jovi. And we had like a, you know, a real rock star experience. But what we discovered along our path is in the pursuit of powerful communication. We must first come home to this body of ours. When someone actually dares to be themselves and sound out, dare to suck. Share innovation, share ideas, really listen from their body, that we tend to show up and business gets better.
In your presentations, you talk about voice inhibitions and suppression. What is that?
About 75% of us have some form of glossophobia or some fear of public speaking being heard. How is that affecting the bottom line in your company sales department? If three quarters of your people are somewhat afraid of being hurt. Hi, my name is Isaac Corin, and my brother and I have been working for a long time. We, yeah, we're really grateful to have this chance to serve other voices. We really feel that it's important to come from your authentic self.
When someone is in their inhibition, what Happens is they go get trained and what they're doing is just building affectation and performance on top of the nerves. Right? And so as human animals, Gerhard, we're smelling if someone's authentically in themselves, we smell it. And so just because someone's performing. So I'm going to. I'm going to feel like I'm not good enough underneath which I felt before in my life. And I'm going to perform on top of that. Ladies and gentlemen, I am so excited to be with you today. And today I'm going to show you reveal that what we've been working on might be the solution to your breakdown. Right, everyone? Okay, great. To us, inhibition is not something to get rid of. It's something to come home with and to even learn to be friends with. And even use those inhibitions to find tribe in your customer. Because we tend to show up as authentic. And when we show up as authentic, people want to buy from us.
How can you tune into your body, use it as an instrument to achieve the performance that is pleasing to you, that resonates with other people. That in my opinion, a sail is a co creation that requires art and science, you know, logic and emotion.
We've found that there's five main modes of the human voice. And the first zone is your speaking voice. So maybe put a hand on your belly just because what you want to feel is a connection to the belly. You just say, hey, hey, hey, hey.
Trusting your own tone, Gearhard and anyone listening right now, connecting your feet to the ground, just try that hey again. And instead of just a short one, do a long one.
If you hey.
Hey.
Now we move up to the power zone. Second zone of the voice, the resonance zone, which asks you to connect that part of you that if you saw a bear in the woods and you had to not just back away, but actually make a sound, you might put a hand on your belly to try this, but you might be like, hey, hey, hey. There you go. Hey.
And you feel like. Try pointing. It helps.
Hey, hey. Yeah. Now elongate that out. Ready?
There's your power zone.
So there's your power.
Number three is after the heart. Third zone we open and become receptive to listening and to attuning.
So you're saying, hey, after a day of being away from your new love. Yeah.
Hey, hey. Just feel that from your heart.
There you go.
Now elongate that out. Ready?
Yeah.
That's it. That's it. I can feel your heart. Go ahead. So now we swing up above the throat to the Playground of the face, we call it. This is where we get to be ridiculous. And this is where we have a party. So maybe it's New Year's Eve, New.
Year's Eve, or your friend's surprise birthday party. And you want to feel it resonating in your head.
Hey, hey.
Hip, hip, hooray. Now elongate that out.
Fifth zone is our crown, right? Our connection to the rest of the the space around us. And this is about connecting to that part. Imagine you've just seen a puppy or a kitten and you're like, oh.
You can feel that high and extend that out.
This is joy. This is joy generation up here, right? This is where we generate that connection and we can use this too. So we have these five zones of the body. Most likely you actually have mastery in these five zones. And it's our job to help you remember that and bring that into your daily interactions. Innovation soars. You know, when people are in their voice, you know, ideas flow generous and curious. Greater ideas tend to bubble up and surface.
Now let's finish with a selling power song. What would it sound like?
Put them in the air.
You can throw it in the chat. We will just improvise a song, an innovative song. I felt these chords.
So Geha, just close your eyes. You're going to help us with one thing here. Close your eyes and just let in these chords. Just notice how they make you feel.
Just take a deep breath into your belly, trusting your voice, letting out the next sound into ah. Any note. Ah. It doesn't matter.
Instrument of expression.
Hope and resonance.
Harness the science of sound to create deeper emotional connection.
Back to Gehard's note.
Try that with us.
Be right in that front of that heart. Voice, the third zone.
And intention.
Amazing. How can people find more about you if they want to hire you? Where do they go?
