But the alternative would be the government would just require everyone to put 20% down and then not as many people could buy homes. So there actually is some pros to this. It also protects the mortgage market. If people were to default on their home loan, mortgage insurance coming to the rescue to save the banks and lenders, keep the whole mortgage market afloat, which everyone wants if they want to buy homes. So there's actually some more positive than negative to this. There's a reason why the government requires it.
