This is a YouTube video titled "🏡 Housing Supply 🏡" containing a monologue by Mike Rowe discussing the housing market supply trends from 1999 through the COVID-19 pandemic period, explaining the causes of housing shortages and price increases as of late 2021.
1999 to about 2006, there were always about 2 million homes available in the housing market. 2008, that surge to 4 million homes available. We saw what happened. Houses were way too plentiful and they lost their value. Then the market recovered and bounced back out around the 2 million number. Now, in the wintertime, things would suppress be about 1.5 million. They ease up in the summertime, bringing a few more homes available. Well, that never recovered last summer with COVID and the market's been suppressed ever since. There's only about 1.2 million homes available today, and that's the cause for the housing shortage, which is pushing prices higher.
