Derek Cole founded Orange Out MS four years ago to fund MS research without asking for donations. People wear orange, post a photo, and his company gives $10 per photo to research. This year brought participation from clients, churches, and ministries, plus cards and gifts.
So 4 years ago, I was thinking of a way we could give back to the MS community, help with the research. And as I was going through MS, I was thinking of, you know, how can I give back? How can I help? So I came up with Orange Out MS for the month of March, which is my birthday month. So the premise was, you know, I didn't want to ask for donations. I didn't want anybody to come out of pocket to buy anything or do anything. I just wanted to raise awareness by spreading orange. Orange is the color of MS. So I wanted to Orange Out MS, Orange Out March, and kind of raise awareness. Go to our clients' homes and say, hey, can you take a picture wearing orange or with the card wearing orange? And we'll donate— the company ourselves will donate $10 for every photo. That way we're not asking for donations, we're not putting a financial burden on anyone from my personal battle. This year has been the best year so far between our team, our technicians going to homes and asking customers to take photos, and the support of the community has been Amazing. It's been amazing this year. If you've seen the posts, you've seen, you know, media photos, some churches, some ministries also helping us. It has been overwhelming because, again, this is not something that I wanted to put a burden on anyone on. I just wanted to raise awareness, give back, and help MS research. But the things y'all have done for us as far as cards and monetary donations and taking the time out to do these things is very special. It's not something we take lightly. You know, everybody has their things going on. Everybody has life they're dealing with day in and day out. So to take even a moment to spend time doing cards, even making monetary donations, is something— thank you very much— is something It's huge. It's a big deal. Thank you so much for taking the time to do all that, for supporting this year of Orange Out MS. I look forward to next year to see what you guys come up with because it was, it was amazing this year. It was creative. Things were done I've never even thought anyone would do. So thank you for that. Thank you for your love, support. Most of all, thank you for your prayers. We ask you to keep praying for us, for me, for the family. You know, this is a daily battle. One day is usually not like the the next day. One day I can talk clear, uh, some days I can't talk clear. So, um, that's something visible you can see, uh, but your prayers mean so much to us, uh, and it's so important. So please keep praying. Thank you so much for the donations.
