Settle For Nothing Less Than Excellence - FDDTC #12

Devin Zander uses cleaning pee off toilet seats as a metaphor for why small habits matter. He argues that attention to detail in everyday tasks reflects directly on business success and personal life, citing his mentor Andy Frisella's approach to excellence.
What's up, Devin Zander here, your host at the From Delivery Driver to CEO what the Fuck Podcast. All right, guys, today we are talking about something interesting. Oh, yes. Why you should clean the pee off of toilet seats if you fucking piss on it. Listen, I know that that's something that only guys do, but ladies, trust me, listen along. This is a lesson that I got from my mentor who is a billionaire. And. And he told me that this is one of the reasons why not only he's so good, but why his team is so good too. Because he taught them to clean the pee off their toilet seats. Now, here's the thing. When I go into a public bathroom, a lot of the time, you know, I'll look at the toilet and there's like piss all over it. It's absolutely disgusting, first of all. But the. The thing is, is it gives me the. A kind of an idea of what person was in there before me. I can see that they're kind of gross, that they don't care about others, that they don't to details, right? When you leave pee on the toilet seat, it tells a story about you. It means you're not paying attention to the details. It means that the small things in life aren't important to you. And when I see that, what it also says to me is you don't appreciate things. So when it comes to your business, there's probably all these little things that are wrong with it, but you're not paying attention to the small things. You think it's not important. You don't think it. It matters. You don't think it has an impact, right? But here's the truth. It does. When you see a little piece of garbage in your house, what should you do? You should fucking clean it up. When you see pee on the toilet seat, what should you do? You should clean it up. When you see some dishes in the sink, what should you do? You should fucking clean it up, okay? Because how you treat all these small minute details in your life is going to directly reflect in your business. Now, I heard a saying once, it's not we don't have business problems. It's that we have problems in our life that are also reflected in our business. So if you get pee on the toilet seat, or if you drop a little wrapper, or if you do something, clean it up. Build that habit of not letting things go undone. Build that habit of paying attention to the small things and getting them done. Pay attention. Like, just make all these tiny things important to you because it's so important in business. Now, I'm not saying that you should get caught up in the small things, right, which would keep you from moving. But what I am saying is take great care, take great passion in what you do. Take pride in being a clean, detail oriented, orderly, not fucking gross person. And it's going to reflect in your business, it's going to reflect in your relationships, it's going to reflect in your life. It'll make people like you more. It'll make your fucking business more successful. And guess what? Here's the really cool part. You is because eventually, if your goal is to make millions of dollars per year or, you know, tens of millions of dollars a year, you're going to start having a team. And when they see that you settle for nothing but excellence. You settle for nothing but clean, you settle for nothing but good. You settle for nothing but done and done well, your team will see that. They'll get the fucking memo and they'll know that you don't settle for anything less than excellence. You and they will strive to have the same standards that you have. But everything starts with you. Wipe your fucking piss up, dude. It's first, it's just disgusting. But other than that, it's going to have huge impact in your life. See, small things, they, they build habits. If you want to be successful and you want to excel, you have to do it everywhere in your life. Okay? You don't want to be super successful, but fucking fat and not able to enjoy life. And if you're overweight, I'm sorry, I was there too. I was 100 pounds overweight, man. I weighed 100 pounds more than I do now was twice the size. There was fucking two of me. So I know what it's like. I know it's not easy, but you don't want to be rich and so out of shape that you can't enjoy it. You don't want to have kids and be so out of shape that you can't play with them. You need to pay attention to everything. You, you need to watch the details, you need to pick up after yourself. You need to live a clean, orderly life. It will reflect in your business. And you have a clean, orderly business that runs like clockwork, makes a lot of fucking money. Your employees will get the memo and see that you settle for nothing but the best. And they will follow that same standard to a T. It's a short episode, but I hope you guys enjoyed this is something important to me. I learned it from Andy Frisella, by the way. He's a mentor of mine. Great podcast host. Obviously much bigger than me, but go check out his podcast, which is the real, real AF podcast. Yeah, Fucking gangster guy. Anyways, thank you guys for listening. I'll see you in the next episode.
