Why Most People Fail & How You Can Avoid This - FDDTC #41

Devin Zander shares personal experiences on overcoming self-doubt and persistence in business. He explains why most people fail and offers concrete strategies to avoid the same pitfalls, drawing from his own journey through challenges.
What's up, guys? Devin Zander here, hot as ever. Living shit. It's. My AC is out. It's been out for like four days. We had to order a part. So I'm wearing white today. I have my clothes packed and ready to go behind me because I'm out of here after this video. But I wanted to step in and record a quick podcast for you guys. And it's essentially about what do you do when things get hard? Because when times get hard and you're not alone here, most people, they quit. Shocker. I know. Crazy, right? Most people quit, they give up and they never get any kind of results. And boom. You shouldn't do that. End of podcast. Yay. Now you know how to be a millionaire and how you can start your own million dollar store. Nibbler's here and he's like, well, guys, you got it all figured out now you don't need me anymore. But I want you to understand the reality of something is there's gonna be. God, I'm like sweating. I'm sorry guys, it is so hot in here. But there's gonna be many, many times in your life when you feel like giving up. When things are hard and you might feel like maybe you're not good enough or maybe that you weren't meant to do this, but something I really need you, listener, to understand is that every single person feels that way. Everybody has self doubt, everybody second guesses themselves. Everybody wonders if they have what it takes or if they're cut out for this. Everybody has those nights where they stay up late staring at the ceiling or when they wake up at 4am stressed out about something and they can't fall back asleep because they can't stop thinking about it. That happens to me all the time, especially during my recent divorce, right? I would wake up at 4am Wondering. I wanted to fix my marriage just to give clarity. I did not want to get divorced. And you know, I would wake up at 4am like four times a week just like wondering how am I going to fix this? Like, how can I show her that I want to be a better husband? How can I show her that I want to be more present, right? And it happens in business. There's so many issues I run into in business. We run into. And to give you an example, in 2020, I believe Black, which I'm not wearing today, surprise was our best selling color for shirts, right? And it still is to this day, Black. And in 2020, because of COVID black shirts, you could not buy them anywhere. Our supplier was completely out. Every other supplier was completely out. And I think there was another period, you know, we saw a lot of hats where Walmart bought all the hat supply in the usa. So we couldn't sell any hats because our supplier was out because Walmart bought them all. And these are like issues that, you know, like, oh man. For first world problems, right? But there's many times where we would wake up at 3, 4am like wondering, how am I going to solve this, this issue? Like, how am I going to ensure my employees get paid? Like, what am I going to do? Right? And the whole point I'm trying to make is you're not alone in that feeling. And here's why that's important. So many people, when they feel that way, like they feel like giving up, they feel like they're scared or they feel like they can't do it, they give up. Other people do it too. What does that mean for you? It means that the further you get, the easier it can become because more and more people fall off along the way. Your competition, they're quitting, they have those same thoughts that you do. And it's only those who fight through those feelings that succeed. And it's actually easier than it seems. There's a quote, I believe it's by Seneca. We often suffer more in our imagination than reality when we are saying, like, I can't do this. It's too hard, it's too painful. None of those feelings are real. Those are labels that we're applying to a situation. We're saying, oh, this is unbearable. According to who? According to you, oh, I can't do this, I'm not smart enough. According to who? You? That's the thing about opinions is they're not rooted in fact. They're just things that we're telling ourselves. Ways that we feel about situations or labels that we apply to situations. Situations are not inherently good and they are not inherently bad. Situations just are. And we apply labels to them. Okay, murder or like, you know, killing someone in the human realm, arguably, obviously very bad. Right? And that's a pretty shared opinion. And if you were to go to the animal world, they kill each other all the time. And it's not bad because they do it for survival. It. And you know, some people out there will argue it's bad. And those people are what we call hippies. Ugh, fucking hippie. Spit on the hippies. But my point being, I know that was kind of a bad analogy, but whether or not you think you can or cannot do something you're right, because you will shape your behavior, you will shape your attitude. You will shape your work around those beliefs. So when things get hard, stop catastrophizing. Stop saying, this is, I'm never going to be able to do this. This is too impossible. This isn't going to work out. Be thankful for the challenges, because nothing is better than having a challenge and overcoming it. That is how we grow as humans. That is how we become better. That is how, at the end of the day, we can feel proud about ourselves and what we did that day. Nobody feels proud about themselves for taking the easy path. Nobody's proud they took the elevator over the stairs. Nobody's proud that they watched Netflix instead of working. At the end of the day, you feel bad about it. You're like, man, I know I should have taken the stairs. Or I know that I should have worked. I shouldn't have watched Netflix. Oh, I'll do it tomorrow. And then tomorrow never comes, and you feel bad about it. Challenge yourself. Embrace the discomfort. Do something that makes you feel good about yourself, something that makes you proud. What negative can come from it? Only good can come from growth. Only good can come from challenging yourself. So when things get hard, realize you're not alone. Everybody feels those ways. A lot of people give up, and a lot of people stick with it. Those who stick with it, their lives change forever. The people who give up, they think that they're alone. They think they're miserable. They think that, oh, I'm the only one who feels this way. I'm not worthy. I'm not good enough. We all have those feelings. But you're never gonna grow because you believe those feelings and you let them control your life instead of stepping up and grabbing what you want out of life. So, yeah, that's it for today. I, uh. It's so hot, guys. I'm, like, dying here. I'm gonna have to change my shirt already. Dude, it's literally soaking through a sweat.
