Hey, let's talk real quick about the American Ornithological Society's announcement that they're changing the names of 70 to 80 bird species, their common names, not their Latin names. So the common names in English, these are birds that are commonly found in Canada and the United States. So what's going on? Well, they announced this, why? Because they want to do harm reduction and be more inclusive in terms of people who are welcomed into the birding community. And for some reason that is controversial because, you know, there's culture warriors that hate diversity. So Essentially what they're doing is they are creating a new naming entity. This entity is going to be made up of people from the social sciences, communications, taxonomy, and of course ornithology backgrounds, and it will engage the public in every step along the way, which means that if there are any legitimate concerns, you can express those. So with that said, good job American Ornithological Society. Let's all get out there and take lots of beautiful photos and look at a bunch of beautiful diverse birds and celebrate this. Thanks.
