In this monologue, Donna Brown argues that vulnerability—often mistaken for weakness—is actually a form of fierce authenticity that can powerfully enhance business relationships. She explains that sharing personal stories, to the degree each individual feels comfortable, demonstrates raw honesty and creates a bridge to clients and audiences. By revealing how past challenges shaped her, she positions herself as a relatable guide, fostering inspiration and deeper connection. Brown emphasizes that in today’s largely virtual, digital‑first environment, authentic storytelling is a crucial way to build trust, moving beyond pure transactional exchanges toward a more relational, tribe‑building approach. She frames vulnerability as brave, strong, and essential for creating magic in client interactions.

There's a lot of talk about being authentic in our businesses and showing up for who we are and showing— bringing all of us to our businesses. And I think there's something that we're a lot afraid of, and that's something Is vulnerability. And in vulnerability, a lot of people can see weakness, but there's a— I find that there's actually a fierceness in this raw honesty of sharing who you are and who your story is. Of course, it's up to you how much of your story to share, but that, that fierceness of saying, no matter what happened to me, here I am, and because of what happened to me, Here I am. And because of what happened to me, I can share with you how I got through it and what difference it's made to me. And that's— and that makes me who I am today in a way that I can bring the same kind of changes with you. And you can draw inspiration from that. You can also connect with people because all of us have something. All of us have stories. All of us have challenges. of all different kinds throughout our lives. That's just the nature of the human condition. And so by embracing this vulnerability and embracing your story and the things that have happened to you, it makes such a huge difference to the people who follow you, to your tribe, to your clients. They'll know you for who you are. A lot of what we do is virtual, it's online, there's a lot of digital products. And so how else do you connect with people other than meeting them through a live event, which are amazing and wonderful, and I'm happy to see so many more of them? But really just that bearing yourself to people and letting them in, because if you let them in, then they in turn will let you in. And that, I think, is also where the magic happens with your clients. Where the society is moving so far past that idea of just pure transaction. I'll give you this if you give me that. There's so much more that goes on underneath. So in that, I find that being vulnerable is being fierce and brave and strong. Donna Brown.
