In this solo video, business mentor Donna Brown explains how entrepreneurs can craft a compelling Unique Selling Proposition (USP) by blending three core ingredients: (1) their skills and experience, (2) their personal worldview, and (3) their business model and delivery mix. She urges viewers to inventory past jobs, volunteer work, and other experiences to uncover hidden “gold” that can be repurposed for a new venture. Donna illustrates the concept with a client, Pamela, who combined 31 years in publishing with a recent spiritual awakening to launch a publishing imprint that helps spiritually‑inclined authors, demonstrating how aligning experience with worldview creates a powerful, differentiated offering. She then discusses the importance of mixing delivery platforms—live, online, recorded, physical products—to reflect both expertise and personal passions, citing examples like coaches who add vegan activism or designers who create journals. The video concludes with a call‑to‑action directing viewers to Donna’s website for deeper resources.

Hi, I'm Donna Brown. I'm a business mentor and I help entrepreneurs create powerful, profitable, and world-changing visions for their businesses, and together we create the concrete roadmap that will make it all a reality. Today I would like to talk to you about how to truly stand out from your competitors. Your USP, your unique selling proposition, the thing that makes you different from everybody else, is actually a cocktail made of 3 things. Your skills and experience, your worldview, and your business model. Your skills and your experience are something that we don't always bring all of to the table when we start something new. We get all excited about something we've learned and we want to just start a business that's based on that, and we turn our back on everything we've done up until that point. But the truth is There is so much gold hidden in your past experience. Things you've learned with different jobs that you took or whether you worked as a volunteer that you can bring into your business model. So I advise you to take 10 or 15 minutes, write down all your past businesses, all your past experiences, and see what nuggets from those you can pull out that would be suitable for actually what you want to create in the future. A great client of mine, Pamela, had discovered her whole spiritual world and was teaching meditation and is a wonderful teacher, but she was kind of struggling. And I was talking to her, we did a deep dive about her business, and she's talked to me about her 31 years in publishing. And it's like, whoa, why is this not part of what you're doing now? Because she didn't see how they could fit together. So what happened was we created for her something that brought her into wholeness. She brought in her publishing experience and her spiritual awakening and now has started her own publishing mark and helps people who have a spiritual calling create their books. And now her business has completely taken off and she didn't know why she had resisted this before and why she didn't see how it all fit together. But as soon as she started bringing everything she's done into one big business model, that's when the magic started to happen. And that has a little bit to do with the second point, is your worldview, the way you see the world, the lens through which you see things. So in her case, she had a spiritual awakening and began to see things in a very different fashion. So for her, what was at the beginning seemed a challenge is to Combine that with what was sort of a traditional business model with this new way of seeing things. But that's actually what people are going to want from you. You don't have to choose one or the other. There's always a way to make them work together. It's the same thing you could say about, let's say, being an animal activist or a vegan. Coaches, there are tons of them. If you're a coach, how do you stand out? How do people find you? What is going to make me relate to you is if I'm a vegan and an animal activist, I'm going to think you're extra amazing because not only do you know your business, but you also do something I deeply care about. So don't be afraid to bring everything that you are into your business. The last thing is that mix, that mixture of platforms and delivery models. Some things could be in person, some things online, some things live. Some things digitally recorded, even physical products. Everything that you know and things that you love to do can be brought into your business. Some people love design and they're business coaches, so they've brought in planners and journals and beautiful products that their clients can have to complete and enrich their experience. So don't be afraid to dive into what makes you different and and include that in your business model.
