Donny Rouse explores the gap between ability and willingness. He argues that clarity about what you want matters less than being willing to sacrifice for it, and that most people know what to do but won't actually do it.
Hi, guys. My name is Donny Rouse, and you are listening to the podcast One Life Able but Willing. What is it that you say you want? Do you really want it? Another word of saying is, how committed are you to getting the very thing that you're saying that you want? For example, say you want, like, do you want a million dollars? Everyone would be like, well, hells yes, I want a million dollars. Who doesn't want a million dollars? Are you willing to do the work that it takes to get a million dollars? That's a very different question. Right. So how this podcast came about, I was actually talking with one of my coaches and I was telling him about, like, the desire to have this freedom of location, to be live in Europe and be able to bounce around the world while still doing my coffee and doing coaching the podcast and just kind of laying out my life vision for him. And he says, well, you know what, that's great, but I can say that I want all of this stuff, but are you willing to do the work it takes to get there? When he asked that question, I was reflecting on the last, literally about the last 10 years of my life and looking how I've, you know, how I've grown, the time I've put into my business and what I've done and what steps I've taken to grow. Unconsciously, I realized that I wasn't making the steps. I wasn't at the time. I wasn't doing the things I didn't have the mindset to say, well, what is it that I want? It was just kind of this airy, kind of fluffy dream saying, well, you know what? If I. If I think about it, if I create the law of attraction, that all of it's going to come to me. While that is true, like, I do believe in law of Attraction, I do believe in putting your focused thoughts on something. When we do that, the answer comes in a result of an opportunity. And the opportunity is what we need to take action on in order to get the thing that we say we want. There's a belief that says anytime you ask, it is always given in the form of an opportunity, but it requires us to step up. It requires us to take new action. So looking back on my own life, my career, were my actions supporting the result that I said that I want? And how the call went was yes and no. And the reason why I say no was because I was lacking some clarity pieces. I was lacking pieces that allowed me to think clearer about the picture that I want to create. And as a result, of that, I would get frustrated because while I knew that this was what I wanted, it was kind of this over. This over enveloping kind of picture, but it lacked focus. And this is probably going to be a different podcast. I knew what I wanted to create, but yet if I was trying to visualize and see it, it was almost like looking through a dirty window. I knew what was there behind on the other side, but I couldn't clearly make out. And not being able to clearly make it out was making me very frustrated, Making me kind of like, want to, like, just kind of toss everything aside because it was challenging to try to see. But then I became aware of it. I became honest with myself as to what it's going to take for me to get the thing that I'm saying that I want. That's one of the reasons why I am here now. I just did three episodes on this podcast because I do want to inspire people to live their fullest lives, connect them to their passion, to give them perspective, realize that everything is fine in this moment right now. The only thing that you have to shift is your mindset. But mindset aside, I want you to go after. I believe that every single person is meant to live their fullest, most passionate expression of their life. And my role, the way I see it, is to extract that, to pull that out of you and to give you that push over the cliff. Because I know when I do that you're gonna soar, you're gonna end up taking off, you're gonna fly. So realizing that, like, all right, well, if I'm gonna do this, what kind of content do I have to put out? How often? How do I have to show up? And I used to try planning the podcast to do, you know, to say, all right, every Monday, every other week, I got to record. But I realized that I sometimes I wouldn't get inspired. So now I reserve that for the beginning of my day when I may feel inspired and I have something I want to share, I come on. And it also feeds me because then I get pumped because I've shared a lesson that I believe can enrich your life. So what is it for you? Like, what is it that you say you want? We'll just go right into the questions, right? I was gonna. This is normally how I ended. But we'll tie it up right now. Get a pen and paper. What is it that you say you want and what will it take in order to get that? Write down that list. Now bear in mind what you believe it will take. Sometimes we have belief systems that are going to make us see, think that we have to do all these actions in order to get the result that we want. But it's not always true. Right? We can use, let's use the case of a million dollars. You can say, all right, well, I want to be a millionaire. Well, first of all, I would ask you, why do you want to be a millionaire? Right? Because when looking at just the money, that's not enough to really push you or make you take that leap. Make you put in the work in order to get it. But if you're thinking about what you want to do with the money, who you're going to help, how you're going to spend it, the experiences you're going to have, then that will fuel the desire to fuel the effort that you're going to have to put forth in order to get it. Because now you're focused on that result. You're focused on all the emotions and things you're going to get as a result of having a million. Then for the second question was, we'll write down what is it going to take Notice belief systems. You may have the belief system that you have to do hard work in order to get money or that money doesn't come easy or whatever it may be. Sometimes your beliefs may be guiding you and making the crevice, the gap, seem that much bigger when it doesn't necessarily have to be, but nevertheless it will require a state change. It will require you to put effort forth, to take new action and to keep taking action. And then lastly, when you've looked down, you've written down these things, all the things, the commitment, the time you commit to take, the financial commitment it's going to take, maybe the effect it's going to have on your relationships, your free time to do the leisure thing. Maybe you love watching Netflix series, you know, oh my gosh. Well, but if I try to build this company, if I try to do that, yeah, it's gonna, I might miss season six, you know, it's gonna interfere with the things you want. So the last question is, are you willing, are you willing to sacrifice these things for the long term game, for the thing that you're saying that you want? If you are, then go do it. Guys. I hope you enjoyed this episode. Again. If you did, please share it with your friends, your family on social media. If you have any messages or comments or this it was relevant for you in some way.
