Hi, guys. My name is Donnie Rouse, and you're listening to the podcast One Life Climbing Out. I think everyone could agree that they want to experience more pleasure, more of the good things in life. But what typically happens is that when you're in a down place, when you're getting things that don't align with the result you have, sometimes you dwell in, like those. Those under thoughts, those thoughts that are associated with the thing that you don't want. And as a result, what do you think you get? You get more of the stuff that you don't want. And I equate that to being almost like being in a hole, right? Because when you're in a hole, the only thing you can see around you is the walls of the hole, like the dirt, if you're underground. And as a result, your focus stays there and you fail to see everything that's above ground. And the same is true of life in your life. You may be unhappy with a job, you may be down on a relationship that you know you should have ended maybe years ago, but you're still in it. Or maybe it's that, that trip that you want to take, you want to start just seizing and living more of life. The only way for you to do that is to climb out and to see what it is above ground and keep your focus there, because that is the only way you're going to get into that spot of creation where you're going to feel empowered, you're going to feel the positive energy to make those shifts, to make those changes. There is an analogy I'd heard it was about race car driving is when you're in race car driving, it's very. You're going around turns, sometimes you go into a spin, and when you're in the spin, it's easy to freak out and not, you know, focus on where the car is steering you rather than where it is you want to go. But there's a trick that drivers who were training would tell the person in the driver's seat, if you focus on where the car's taking you, maybe the wall, that is where you're going to end up. So the key is to focus on where it is that you want to go, right? So you would focus back on that track and making that turn. The same is true of life. Have you ever noticed where you get into this dark hole, it seems like things just start to stack and pile on one another, and you're like, well, why is this happening? It just seems like all this bad stuff just keeps attracting to me. And I know this will probably trigger a lot of people, but I'm willing to say that. I'm gonna say that you're attracting a lot of those things to you based on where you're putting your energy, where you're putting your focus. But the opposite is true, right? When you take yourself out of that, you start to bring good things towards you. And I'm gonna give you an example from my own life right now, something that literally was in, like, the last week. And I'm gonna use this example. It's about pulling shots of espresso. And I'm using this because it's very simplified. But by using such a simple example, hopefully you'll be able to grasp it easier and kind of take it and say, how does this fit into my own life? Where have I done this and what has been my result? Where have I broken that habit of putting my focus there, and what has been the result there? Because the old thing is about training you to see your habitual patterns, your way of focusing so you could change. That's where real change happens. It all starts with the mindset. It all starts with psychology. So a few weeks ago, I was pulling shots of espresso. And for, you know, if you're into coffee, you know that sometimes pulling shots of espresso could be a moving target. Because as beans age, like, you know, the moisture content changes, especially, I mean, just given. Even in the. In the day, right? So you could be pulling shots over the course of, like, a couple hours, and all of a sudden, something shifts, maybe because of ambient temperature. And now all of a sudden, the shots of espresso that you're making aren't coming out the same, and a change needs to be made. So usually, like, espresso is like, I start my morning with my morning shot of espresso. So sometimes when that shot doesn't come out perfectly, it tends to spiral me down. I tend to go into that hole. And then when I'm in that hole, I'm concentrating. I'm thinking to myself, like, all I want is a good shot of espresso, and everything is coming out crappy. And I'm thinking about that, right? So when I'm in that mode and I'm looking at it, I'm pulling shot after shot after shot. Sometimes I go 20 shots, and I won't even have a single one. But when I'm in that mode, like, I'm not thinking clearly. I'm thinking about the shots tasting like shit. And literally, I'm trying to figure out what change has to happen? But here's the thing. Because I'm in that mode, that frantic mindset, I'm only focusing on the shots that have been coming out bad. What do you think? What kind of changes do I make to that roast or to the, to the shots that are being pulled? I'll tell you, not much of anything, right? Like, I would find myself literally running in circles. I would pull a shot, it wouldn't come out. And maybe I like, I tweak something maybe like the gram, the dose in the portafilter. I'd take a couple grams out, pull the shot, it wouldn't come out right. And I would like still keep dial, playing around with the dose. And then I would start playing with the grind setting. And it was more of this frantic adjustments that I was making. There was no logic, no structure, no system to how I was making these changes. And as a result of that, the shots were always coming out all across the board. Today I was in this mindset and like in. The reason why I'm posting this now is because I was sort of focusing, well, what is it that I, you know, like the shot that I'm going for, what is it that I want? And I thought about, like, you know, I want this, like this nice rich coffee with this nice thick crema with this really, really big body. My mouth is watering thinking about it. And when I pulled that first shot, it didn't come out how I initially wanted. It was still good. It was a good shot. But I aim for perfection. I don't go for good. And I pulled the shot and I drank that shot because it was good. I was like, you know what? No, I'm going back for it. And so I made like, you know, a small adjustment to the gram first because, you know, you adjust the grammage, couple grams, that will change the shot if it's still pulling wrong. Then you adjust the grind setting very slightly using the same dose. And it's just a, a logical way of adjusting. So this way you can fine tune and get that shot for the coffee aficionados out there. And so I knew exactly where I was going. And the only thing I could say to you listening this year, like, all right, well, it sounds like you were kind of doing the same thing. Yes and no. They were more systematic. The second time around, the changes I was making were more systematic. And how I felt in that moment was better. Right? Because let's put it, let's be frank with one another, right? It doesn't matter what the heck you do in life. You could be have no money. I mean, you don't have to have anything, but you can still feel great. Essentially, it all comes down to how you feel. You don't have to even make any kind of gains. If you're feeling good, then that's kind of where you are at, right? You could be losing and still feel good and think you're winning. And if you are, then awesome. It's all kind of how you keep score. So going back to the example, so the point I'm trying to make is that if you want to feel good, if you want to start making changes that are aligned with the very thing you're going for, be it the trip or the job that you love, anything, you have to be above ground. You have to see it from where you are. Because when you're in that hole, right when things are getting worse, you're just concentrating on them getting worse and you're not adding any. You're not looking for a solution. Your solutions are only coming from that little box that you're in, and as a result, you're only getting more of where you are. I was reading this, I got this email from. It's called the Universe Talks by Mike Dooley. And in this email, this particular email, he was talking about, you make little steps. When you make a little step towards a goal, imagine people cheering for you, like people applauding celebrations, all this stuff going on. After making a small step and then trusting that the next step is going to be taken care of for you, it's kind of like the whole, you take that first step and then the next step appears. So it's funny that I literally received that email this morning, how it was very in sync with this post now, because when you think of, like, all right, the thing you want, you're thinking on that level. And imagine just making a change and then imagine just people breaking out in applause cheering for you. And then you know that the next thing's going right. Doing so puts you in elevated state, and that elevated state is what carries you over. So even if things don't go your way in the beginning, that elevated state brings you forward. It's almost like, you know what? I roasting coffee. Here's one more example. I roasted coffee today. I wanted to. I love testing things because I'm not content with just doing things one way. I always want to seek out better ways how to get that better cup of coffee. So I modified the roast on one of my coffees today, seeking out something better sometimes that would Freak me out because I'm like, well, what if it comes out worse? And when that happens again, it spirals me down. And I'm usually more critical of the coffee than I would have been if I were, you know, coffees always taste good, let me put it that way. But today I was very composed and I, you know, and this was my mindset. So as a result, I made the changes. I know that I'm going to learn something, and I'm feeling much more confident in that approach. I cup the coffees tomorrow, so we'll see how that translates in the cup. But nevertheless, let's kind of, let's bring it back to the center here. Where do you put your focus right when you're looking at. If you're wherever you are, let's say where you are in life right now, where are you putting your focus if things are getting worse, where's your thoughts been going, right? And then when you notice where your thoughts are going, where is it that you want them to go? Like, what do you, what do you want to feel? If you can get out of this, this mode of being where you are right now, that's not comfortable, where would you want to. How would you want to feel when you've got that? Ask yourself, all right, well, how would it feel to be in this place right here? What kind of thoughts would I have to have to be in this place? And then what kind of actions would I have to take Again, wherever you are, the thoughts that you're putting out there, you could only get stuff that's equal to those thoughts. So when you're stressed out about the money not coming in, you're only going to attract those things. But when you're playing a big game, your mind is more open and expanded. All of a sudden, new possibilities come in. That is all I've got for you guys today. If you enjoyed this post, please give it a share to your friends who you think you could benefit from it. And if you like this, please consider leaving a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify Podcasts. It would be greatly appreciated. That is all I've got for you guys today. I will be back probably tomorrow doing another post, in which case if you're watching this, you'll see it. If you're listening to this on the podcast, it'll be posted much a few days later.
