Donny Raus talks about taking the first step to create momentum and change. He shares stories about rebuilding his website and exploring property ownership in Italy, and discusses his coffee business as examples of acting on goals.
Hi guys, my name is Donnie Rouse and you are listening to the podcast One Life Demand Change. Nothing changes without a demand being first placed on it. Said differently, nothing changes without you taking action towards it. And that action could be something as small as if you're booking a trip. It could be as small as getting that information booklet to figure out, well, what exactly do I want to do when I go to visit and take that trip to Italy? But by taking that action, by placing that demand, when I say action or the demand, I really mean the action. By taking a step forward, what you're doing is you're actually creating momentum. You're inviting another action to take in. Because now all of a sudden, as a result of having this new information come in, new decisions have to be made. And then lastly, you give yourself more confidence because as you start moving forward, you start to build excitement, you start to build that momentum and you start to feel confident that you can achieve or do whatever it is that you're setting out to do. This morning I was thinking about revamping my website. I hadn't really played around with it that much, but I had been dreading the thought of doing it. But then I remember, well, you know what? All I really have to do is start. If I just go in and start to edit some of the copy, then that's just going to open up a can of worms and I'm going to start spending a lot of time revamping that copy. And then all of a sudden it'll be up to date and I'll be happy with it and I won't have to touch it for another. I don't even know how many years. It's been seven years. But then I remembered. So thinking that I also remembered how I started the website. I had resisted doing my coffee website for probably three years when I started my business. Then eventually, I'm not sure what happened, but something kind of like tipped me over the edge where I'm like, okay, I can't take it anymore, I need a website. So I started building the website. And as a result of building that website, as a result of taking the step, at first the result was, alright, let's just get an online presence. So if somebody looks me up, then they could see, okay, Donnie Rouse has a business called Rouse Coffee and this is what he's about. And that was it. But then it started to transform. As a result of taking that one action, it started to transform. Then all of a sudden I started putting all the different products on. I started thinking of different ways, putting the. About me, putting my beans the way why I select the beans that I select. And then I started creating coffee rituals that I put online. It just started to snowball. But not only that. Then I started to promote my website because before, I didn't really, like, I was doing farmers markets, and that was the core of my business. So I said, well, you know, I don't have to spend the time doing this. But then, as a result of building that website, I now became more. More. I'm lacking the word right now. More like a people. I became more aware that I needed to publicize my company, I needed to get my market and get my word out there. But that wouldn't have come if I didn't take that first step. So that first step, imagine it like a snowball or an avalanche happening, right? Starts with this little. Little. This little snowball that starts rolling, rolling, rolling. And as it starts to roll, as it keeps rolling, it gets momentum and it gets size. That's the same thing as for anything in our lives. Like, whatever it is that you want to do, the only thing you have to do is start, is to take that first, first step. After that first step, the next step will show itself, and the next step will show itself, and so on and so forth until you're in a place where you never thought you would be in a good way. But what's the opposite? The reciprocal is not taking that action. And let me tell you this. Everything changes all the time. Nothing is stagnant. Everything. Everything has changed. You may think something's not changing, but it's actually getting worse. If you're not changing, what is it? There's a. If you're not growing, you're dying is. I think it was like a Tony Robbins term I had picked up at one of his seminars once. If you're not doing anything, you think you're staying the same, but you're actually being pulled back. And I'm not saying this, and I don't want to create a, like, the stress hormone. Like, oh, my God, I have to do something before. No, drop that bullshit. Don't even worry about that. The first question you have to ask is, what is it that you want? When you have a general idea about, oh, well, I want to take a trip, I want to start that business. Then just get a little more clarity on it. Maybe a journal is the next step. Oh, what would I want to do? And then do the next step. And then just watch how every step will add another step, another action, give you more Clarity. This is very similar to the podcast I did called Inspired Action. Very, very much the same concept, but just said a little bit differently. The Inspired Action was when you feel that inspiration, you act quick because it locks you in to the action. It locks you into that result as long as you keep following up with action. This is just saying start. It's just saying just start. By just starting, you'll be surprised at how much just it's that first step that so many people don't take. But just by taking that first step, no matter how big or small, you'll slowly start to snowball and you'll start to arrive at that place that you want to be, that place that you desire, or maybe somewhere else that you are even happier in, but you couldn't even picture because when you were in that spot, your outlook, your awareness was so small that there's no way you could have imagined this great thing way out in the future. So what is it that you've been putting off? What is that thing that you know it's going to bring you the emotions that you want to do? You're going to feel happy, you're going to. You feel fulfilled. Maybe it's the business, maybe it's travel, maybe it's starting that relationship with someone that, you know, you just kind of felt funny. You didn't want to share your feelings because you're afraid of it not hurting the friendship, whatever it may be. I don't know, I'm just throwing stuff out there. What is one step you can do today? If you're listening to this, what's one step you can do right after this podcast that could get you. If a step scares you, maybe move you one inch forward. What is that one thing? Going back to the Tripp thing because I actually purchased a. Well, I got this pamphlet on owning property in Italy. I always had the thought, wouldn't it be great if I had a rental property in Italy that I could rent out? But whenever I wanted to go, it was always there for me. They said, well, you know what, let me look online, let me just see. I know there are intricacies in owning property overseas. I'm an Italian citizen, so it makes it a little bit easier. But I don't know anything about renting a property. Let me just do a search. I did a search and I came across a website that had an information booklet on first time property owners who want to use it as rental. So I downloaded it. I'm going to read that later today. But that is the first step by reading that, it might put something else in my mind and move the ball forward. So that is what it is for you. Just the one thing, and then all I want you to do is action it, think of it, and then action it. That is it. Guys, I hope you enjoyed this podcast. I hope you know that you deserve so much beautiful and awesome shit in your life. Not shit, but awesome things in your life. And I want that for you. Because that's what life is about, right?
