Donny Rouse explains how repeated mental focus and emotional engagement clarify and realize your goals, using the metaphor of a desire path. He shares his experience creating a vision board and argues that committing to your visions and taking action makes them real.
Hi, guys. My name is Donny Rouse, and you are listening to the podcast One Life Desire Path. In order for change to happen, change must first occur on the inside for it to manifest, for it to be seen on the outside in your external world. So before I go any further with that, what is something you want? How clear about that thing are you? Do you know with exact precision what it is that you want to have experience, do? If not, that might be one of the reasons why you're not having it. Also, how real does it feel when you think about the thing? Do you get excited because it feels like it's already there, or you just do you look at it almost as if it's from in a distance somewhere where it seems so far out there that you can't even grasp it. What I'm going to do in this episode is I'm going to give you a formula to get clear and create that change on the inside. So this way you can manifest, this way you can get the thing that you want in the external world. I was in an event called Mindset Retreat with Fabienne Frechtzeon, and in the receipt, they made me aware of something. It was an example she gave about wading through the grass, right? If you have tall grass and you're trying to get, say, to a lake on the other side of the grass that you have to cross, when you cross that first time, the grass just kind of springs back up and the path is covered up again. But the more and more often that you cross over that same line, that same path, the more kind of stumbled on that path gets. And all of a sudden you start to see the path, it starts to become clear. You no longer have to guess which way you have to go in order to get to that lake. The path has been laid out before you because of the repetition. Well, how true is that of life, right? Anything you want in the external world, anything you want to change, any belief you want to change, any identity you want to create, it's all going to come from the habit of repetition. If you look back and you think about things that had happened in the past, any even negative identities that you've taken on, that was a result of repetition. So if we want to change how we feel inside, it's a matter of thinking differently, feeling differently, speaking differently inside. I was doing a. Creating my. My vision board. You could probably see it in the corner there, still working on. It's like a double vision board, because that's huge. And while doing that vision board, it was Kind of like it was one of the harder things that I had done with regard to trying to create a vision. Right. Part of it was probably because on some level I probably wasn't really sure with what I wanted to create. I wasn't sure what I wanted to have in my life. But one of the things I noticed that after I just committed to engaging in the process, I said, you know what, I'm just gonna, I gotta commit that I gotta finish this vision board. Because if I don't have it, what am I gonna be driving towards? What is the vision if I don't have a vision? So I started collecting pictures, going through magazines, cutting things out, cutting out words. If majority of the stuff I have on there are words and putting them on board and it's okay. Feels pretty good when I read the words that are there. Passion, world traveler, Strong. Health, natural. All these things, like they were all feeding me. I felt energy from it. But there was no. I was lacking pictures, I was lacking things to give me that directions. I was feeling it. But I wanted something a little bit more visual so I could visualize myself in there. So I started adding pictures to it. There's pictures of travels all around the world that there's Petra, there's New Zealand, there's Australia, Morocco, there's Istanbul, Turkey, which I'm going to next week. And I started putting all these things on there. What I noticed days after doing this was that I started to get more images, more things that inspired me just by their site. Things would pop in my mind. All of a sudden, now I'm writing them down on paper, I'm like, oh, oh yeah, this person. Or I would write it down, get the picture online, print it out and then put it on my vision board. And then when I would look at the vision board, it wasn't always easy. I would look at the vision board, I'm like, alright, yeah, I'm looking at this, but I'm not really feeling it. And then day after day I would continue to do the same thing. But here's what happened. I noticed that the more I committed to the act of doing the visualization of looking at that vision board and trying to feel the emotions of having that very thing. The more my mind started to envelop in it, the more my mind started to play around with these visualizations, things that may happen and see myself in that scene. Well, how true is that of life, right? This is exactly what I just described to you as wading through that, that patch, that high patch of grass to get to that lake, to get to that. That dream, whatever it is that you want, you have to tread over that grass over and over and over again. As a result of taking that action, all of a sudden things start to become clear, the path start to become clear, and now you know the direction. So if you've. If you've struggled with doing a vision board or doing anything, because maybe just didn't feel right, maybe it's not. It's nothing to do with you. Maybe you just have to commit to doing it more. And by doing so, it'll feel more natural, you'll get more clarity, you get a bigger vision for yourself. In trying to come up with a name, I was going, well, is there a name like, how do I describe this? Walking through the grass to make a. You know, to treading on the grass, making the path. And what is this even called? To my surprise, I looked it online and it was called a desire path. A desire path. Think of the synchronicity in that, right? Desire path. I'm just talking. I was looking at my vision board, trying to create the vision board which are my desires. And I look up what the meaning or the word to describe this. Since this thing that happens with the grass, and it was called a desire path, meaning for your desires to come to fruition, you must constantly revisit them in your mind. You must constantly feel them until they become real. Once you've done that, then the path becomes very clear. You can see the path forward. So what is it in your life that you want? Have you ever even thought about it? One of my good friends, she was saying, well, you know, she knows exactly what she wants, and she's really diligent about doing the work she needs to do. I said, well, have you thought about what Elisa wants? Because I know she's a very hard worker. I just said her name there. She's a really, really diligent worker. And I say, well, you know, don't forget what you want. Don't forget to give yourself that time. Because while it feels good to do certain things, like to pour ourselves in the work, even if we love the work, it also feels good to give ourselves to relax, to take a step back, to breathe. So to kind of sum everything up, it's about getting clear about what you want. And if you're not really sure what that is right now, then I encourage you to just take a few minutes to take journal some questions on it, right? What are the things you want to experience? What are some of the things you want to have. What are some of the things you want to accomplish? And let's take it a step further. Let's think of the identity that you want to create, who you want to become. This is going to be a whole nother episode for the podcast about, like, about identity through some of my own experiences that I want to share with you. But let's just look at the big vision. Who is it that you want to become? Once you have all that there, the next step is stepping into the feeling, feeling as if you have it and just letting that vision kind of grow and blossom. So this way it feels real on the inside again. That comes through repetition. If you have any questions on this, feel free to send me a message via Instagram. Onnydon Y R A U S and I encourage you to make a habit around doing this. I like to do these things with my morning cup of coffee. If you like coffee, I encourage you to try my Rous Coffee company, R A U S C O F F E E where the emphasis for me is really about creating the ritual. Giving you that time that start in your day to say, okay, what is it that I want for my life? What is it that I want for my day? Before you get dragged into the demands that everyone else is making on you, coincidentally, is also amazing coffee. So that will also be a catalyst to kickstart your day and put you in a better state of mind. But even if you don't drink the coffee, I hope you will take the time to do this activity because your life is worth it. You are worth it. And it comes with the realization that now is the only time we have. There is no other time to do anything. Right now is the only time. So if you're not making good, if you're not taking action towards the things you want now, then you're putting them off. And you're putting them off to a time where they may never come to fruition. I don't want that for you. I want you to live the most passionate expression of your life. And that's why I'm here to guide you there. Because I know how good it feels and how precious life is. That every day is a blessing and a gift. I hope you enjoyed this episode. Guys, thank you so much for tuning in. If you enjoy this, please give it a like, please share it with your friends and family. God bless and I will see you again next week.
