Donny Raus explores how personality is built from stories and beliefs you tell yourself. He shares techniques from Tony Robbins and Joe Dispenza for replacing disempowering narratives with empowering ones through meditation and affirmations.
Hi guys. My name is Donny Rouse and you're listening to the podcast One Life Divorce. Your story, who is it that you say you are? What is your personality? What if your personality was nothing but a story? And what if you control the narrative of that story? The truth is, that is exactly what our personality is. It's nothing but a combination of stories. Stories that we've picked up from other people, stories that we've picked up from friends, family, religions, teachers, that we've looked for proof in the outside world when we're younger because we didn't have the facilities to say, well, is this true or is this not true? Whatever it was that just came into our mind, we took it as truth. And they could be empowering or disempowering beliefs. So what happens as you get older is you start to unpack all this crap and you start to say, okay, well, why is it that I'm always thinking this way? And you might not even be conscious of it, but it may go back to a time when you were six years old and a teacher yelled at you saying that you'll never be good at anything. All of a sudden that was a belief you took with you for your entire life. And as a result of that, every time you would get going and you'd gain momentum in something, you would self sabotage saying, well, you know, it's not going to work anyways. And you would just kind of throw it out and you start all over and you throw it out and you kind of go through this vicious cycle. I went to a Tony Robbins seminar a while back ago, I think it was probably 2013. And Tony Robbins has this thing called the Dickens Process, I believe it's called, and this was in his event, Date with Destiny, where he has you write down your beliefs and your values, your towards in a way. And then during this process, you're looking at the past, you're looking at who you were, that personality, that Persona, and you're attaching pain to that Persona. And then what he does is he has you look out to the future where you're going like this, create this bright future. And he has you feel that now. It doesn't end there. He then goes back and puts you back in that painful state and imagine this beautiful, you know, this beautiful nirvana that you had just envisioned being pulled away from you. And you're trying to pull it back, you're trying to pull it back, and all of a sudden you're pulling it back, pulling it back, pulling back, and all of a sudden you're slingshotted into this ideal state, this ideal story, this ideal life, whatever you want to call it. And then he goes a little bit further, and I'm probably like, I'm kind of paraphrasing here because I haven't done his event in a very long time. But from what I remember, then he'll go through new beliefs, and he'll go through. You're saying these beliefs to get them into your body until you believe them, until you actually feel them inside of you. And then once you do, you kind of integrate. And to be honest with you, when I did that, I really get that some people got their breakthroughs in that process. I didn't, I believe it was just a step or a stone in my. In my journey, but I didn't for reasons probably because the concepts were all fairly new to me. Fast forward now. I'm taking this Joe Dispenza like, course, progressive course, and listening to one of his meditations. And ironically, I noticed that they were the same concept, the same. You know, it was kind of like the same format, although presented a little bit differently. Joe Dispenza, what he does is he takes. He takes you through a meditation. And in this meditation, you're identifying what. First you go. You drop brainwaves. You go from the three stages of beta into alpha. And then there you start to, you know, once you're fully in your. In your mind and you're not sensing the body, you start to go through like, well, what is that disempowering belief that you have? Like, you may say that you're ugly or that nothing ever works. And then he takes you through this process later, visualizing the very thing that you want, the desired state. Maybe if you think you're ugly all of a sudden, like, you're very confident where you are. You're very confident with who you are and your looks and everything else. And the best process, what I found. So I did the Joe Dispenza one recently. And what I found was as I was doing this meditation, as I was going through those touching upon the negative points of the personality that you developed from the past, my body felt extremely heavy, but I was only sensing with my mind. I wasn't sending, but I just felt weight in my body. Then when we did the transformation or the switch, and you go into that more desirable, more empowered state, I felt this lightness all of a sudden, literally just be lifted off and two different processes for roughly the same thing. Maybe one resonates with you, maybe Tony Robbins resonates with you. Maybe Joe Dispenza resonates with you. I like the Joe Dispenza approach, but I want to kind of go through it and break it down and say, well, what was valuable about these different approaches, Joe Dispenza. So in order to kind of let that impression last, right, to feel this empowered state, to feel this desired outcome that you want. Whenever you're feeling that negative personality, you say change. And it's like a trigger word. And then in your mind, you have this image of what it is that you want to change to. So if you go through this, if you have a belief that you. You're not attractive, whenever you have that thought, you say, okay, change. And then that's like the trigger to flip the script and enact this positive, the confident side of you. Tony Robbins has a different approach to it and one I actually like. He says rather than change, he says, bullshit. You know, you say it and then you say. You say what the truth is. And he has a saying that really resonated with me. It says, divorce the story, marry the truth. Divorce the story, marry the truth. So when you catch yourself saying something that is pulling you down, right? So say you're like, I'm not good at anything, you catch yourself in that and you say, divorce the story. You say, bullshit. What's the truth? And then you state the truth. If that was your story, you would look for examples as to what the truth is. The truth is that you take any example from your life. Let's say it was me. This wasn't my example, but let's say it was me. I say bullshit. I'd say I built my body to the way it is. People admire my physique. I have a podcast doing this. You say all the reasons why you broken through and why you have succeeded or why you're not this negative Persona. And by doing that enough, you flip the script. And I'll tell you from my own experiences in doing the divorce and the story and marrying. The truth is that when I caught myself in that negative thought pattern, in that negative talk, I said, bullshit. What is the divorce story? Marry the truth. What is the truth? And I go into the truth just by vocalizing it. You don't keep it inside. You actually will say the words. You feel the difference. You feel more empowered as a result of saying those. And the Joe Dispenza. One thing I feel like I might be jumping around a little bit, but in the Joe Dispenza is he says, when you're like that, prior State when you're looking at that negative emotion, you say, let's say again, let's go back to you thinking you're unattractive, alright? So if that is the thought, what are the things you tell yourself after that, that reaffirm this? So you may see someone attractive of the opposite sex or same sex, if that's your preference. And you start going to this dialogue and you think of all the things that you tell yourself and then you think of everything that follows, right? Because you can't have a thought that's like up here, match a thought that's down here. So if you think you're unattractive here, you're not going to match it with a higher vibrational thought, right? Because they're not aligned, they don't fit. But if you were to raise your vibration, if you were to be more positive, you were to be in that better mood when you break that state now all of a sudden you become aligned with something better. I guess in essence, like what I'm trying to say here is that everyone has a story. We all have stories about our personalities. Some are empowering, some are disempowering. The disempowering you guys, you'll know because of the negative feelings you get. If you've never looked at any of this before, then this is actually a great thing. If you're experiencing it and you know that there's all this negative talk and what you show on the surface is not really what's happening on belief, applaud yourself because this is a good thing. Having that awareness is amazing because now you know that there's something there and you have to move forward, right? You know, there's nothing wrong with you, it's just prior conditioning. So when you know that, the next step is to just identify, well, what, what is it? What is the feeling, right? What is it that you're, you're, you're believing when you know that, well, what are the things you tell yourself? And you see how this belief that you're holding onto has this web that keeps you kind of entangled in it. And then once you have that, you could look to say, well, where do you want to go? You look at the gap. Where is it that I want to go? What was it that I want to feel? And you start to envision, you start to feel what it feels like to actually have that giving thanks for already having it. And if you do it well, your body won't know the difference. You'll actually have the same emotions as you would if it existed, say you wanted a million dollars. If you were able to put yourself in that state and give gratitude for it, and feeling it, you would feel that magnetized, that magnetic pull, because you would feel like you already had it. You don't have to worry about trying. It doesn't feel like a struggle to try to make it because you know it's already in you. And so that's. I mean, basically, that's what I want to get is I feel like I'm going in circles here. Now, the principle is, what's the feeling that you're overwhelming feeling? What are the thoughts that are feeding that and what follows next? Look to where you want to go. Usually it's the reciprocal. Where is it that you want to go? What is it that you want to. What kind of words would you say yourself? Just flip it. What are the kind of things? If you want to be confident, what kind of things would you say to yourself as a result of having that confident belief? And then what kind of things would follow? What kind of things would you pull towards you? And then the whole process is just being able to catch yourself in the negative thought patterns, break the pattern, divorce the story, marry the truth. Stating the truth out loud. This is a very, very basic level of it. You go deeper with meditation because meditation breaks. It cuts those strings because no longer are you identifying with the thought. You're able to see the thought. You're able to say, okay, what's going on here? And when you separate yourself from the thought, you're able to free yourself and go towards something better. Guys, I hope you enjoyed this podcast. This is kind of like a page out of my own personal journey. When I came on here and thinking, well, what is it that I wanted to share? And this was what I felt like I could share. If you have any questions, I mean, this feels very vague, but if you have any questions, I'm more than happy to clarify them. You can message me at Donny D O N Y R A U S via Instagram. And that is all I've got for you guys today. I hope you enjoyed this podcast. God bless, and I will see you again tomorrow.
