Donny Rouse shares how reframing challenges as blessings can shift your perspective and help you find joy in everyday moments. He draws on personal experience to show why appreciating what you have, even the hard parts, changes how you live.
Most people spend their entire life stressed without ever giving a single thought as to what it is they really want or what's important to them. See, I'm here to cut through all that noise connecting you to yourself and the life that you were meant to live. I used to slave away at a corporate job that I hated, but I broke through the social norms and pursued my passion. As a result, I own my own coffee company. I'm espresso sommelier, and I get to travel the world. You too can live a life that you love, but it starts with getting clear about what you want. It starts with a new decision. I'm your host, Donnie Rouse. You are listening to the podcast One Life. It's All a Blessing. I heard this story from a friend. He was telling me about a story that he had heard. It was about a woman, Poland. She was living during Nazi Germany. And I guess they must have gathered like a group of people and they were sitting there in front of a firing squad. And as she was sitting there in line waiting to get shot at, something happened. I don't know the entirety of the story, but she didn't die. They didn't shoot her. So she said that every moment thereafter, regardless of what would happen, was a blessing. So she always exhibited this bliss about life, but it was because she had the contrast of literally being near death. So how true is that of us, right? When you think of the little things in your day that just kind of seem to like, get on your nerves and literally throw your entire day off, what if you could literally flip a switch and change the way that you feel about your day or whatever it is that's going on. I'm here to tell you that that is possible, that you could do that. But it just comes with reframing and thinking about life differently in that emotion. So let me ask you this. If you were the one standing in front of that firing squad and a gun malfunctioned and you realized that you had a second chance at life, how would you look at everything else thereafter? I was going to the gym yesterday and I tried to go at a certain time where I know it's not going to be busy, but yesterday I ended up going a little bit later. So I was, alright, well, let me just go anyways, you know, it's usually not that busy lately. So I went. It was around 5 o'. Clock. I get to the parking lot and there is not a single spot in the parking lot. So I'm like, oh my gosh, man, why did I even come And I'm starting to go. I catch myself starting to go down this rabbit hole of, you know, of kind of, like getting not angry, but upset that I spent the time I came all the way over the gym. I could have just worked out at home. Now I wasted an hour, and I literally caught myself going down that. Down that. Like, drifting down that hole. Then that story popped in my mind. I said, well, you know, well, this is still a blessing, right? I mean, I'm here, I'm alive. I. I could go home, I could do some resistance bands. It's not a big deal. And all of a sudden, my mood shifted. Now, what happened? Did anything change? In my outward circumstances? Absolutely not. I could have drove all the way back pissy about not being able to work out, and, well, I have to go do resistance bands, and I don't get to focus on the body part that I want. I could have focused that, and I could have gone down that path, but I chose to go down a different path instead. So I mention this because if you're able to catch yourself before you start going down there, it's very easy to change lanes or take a different route. But if you allow yourself, you see the path you're going down, and you continue to drive and you start driving faster, you're going to get to that. That icky place that you don't want to be. And then everything else in life just feels like a struggle. It feels harder as a result. So I'm inviting you to ask yourself a different question, because in the end, it's really. It's all about enjoying life, right? Everything you're doing, whether it be for work, saving money, whatever it is, it's all for one reason. It's all to get more enjoyment out of life. And you can be like, well, how does that make sense? Well, you. Maybe it's more enjoyment spending time with your friends. Maybe it's that vacation. Maybe it's buying that house that's near the water where you can relax and read your books. Whatever it is, everything is like means to an end. But it's important not to make the end the means, because then life goes by and you don't even enjoy it. One of the main reasons why I come on and I do this podcast is to remind you to live life, not put it off for some later point. I do a lot of personal development seminars, and when I'm in that mode, I always feel like it's like, go, go, go, go, go. And I'm always pushing, pushing, pushing to the point Where I forget to step back and realize that that's not what life is about. Yes, I want to grow, but not at the cost of taking the enjoyment away. So I'm a firm believer that if you take the time to enjoy life, everything else becomes easier as well, especially the growth in your career, your business, whatever it may be. So let's bring it back again to the main point. What's going on in your life right now? And if you made a just a shift in your consciousness, a shift in your way of thinking about things, how would that change the way you look at life? So my, I guess it's not even like a question I want to ask you. I want to invite you. I want to challenge you over the next day. As you go about your day and you start to encounter things that may not go your way, I want you to just say, what if I were in front of that firing squad and I had a second chance at life? How would I take this, right? Put things in perspective? How would I look at this event that's happening? Because when you realize the gift of life is a gift and every moment that we are here presently in the physical, on this planet is a blessing. So if you can remember that, I promise it'll transform your day. I literally, sometimes my head, maybe it's because of the caffeine, my head literally will drift back and forth, back and forth and I constantly have to remind myself and pull myself back to center what really matters right now, right? If this were all, if I had a near death experience, how would I look at this? I wouldn't. This or this would be nothing, right? This would be nothing. I wouldn't even think about it five years from now, five minutes from now, I probably wouldn't think about it. And if I looked back on what all the, the energy that I put into whatever it was, I probably. Why was I putting the energy there? It's not worth it. So that's all I've got for you guys today. Hope you enjoyed this podcast. I hope it brings some just somehow joy to your day, some ease and just a reminder to look around you, the people you're around, wherever you live, realize the blessings that are around you.
