Donny Raus on how your view of the world shifts from childhood to adulthood, and why focus, environment, and mindset matter more than you think for living a fuller life.
Hi, guys. My name is Donny Rouse, and you're listening to the podcast One Life Mad World. Do you ever feel like the world is changing, but changing for the worse? That things around you, things seem to be decaying and falling apart? If you do, this podcast here is going to attempt to kind of change the way you're seeing the world and give you a better outlook on life. And one of the ways I'm going to try to attempt to do that is by pointing a laser to those things that are causing you to see this focus, where your focus is going. So I was on the phone with a friend of mine and his. Both of his parents are actually. They're not doing too well right now. And he was just saying. We were talking about, like, how hard life can be. Pointing to, like, when you get older, how, you know, look around the world today. This whole thing with COVID the war in Afghanistan, and it just seems like everywhere you look, like society is crumbling. I'm gonna ask you, is it really. Remember when we were kid. When you were a child, right? As a child, what was the world? It was like Pollyanna, right? And everywhere you look, there was nothing but beauty. There's nothing but magic. So what changed? Yes, I think that there's awareness in terms of how the world works. You become more aware of human nature. Right. And when. When I. At least I believe when I was younger that I kind of. I have this naive belief that human. Well, everyone is good. Everyone's always going to do. Right. I still believe that. I mean, I'm a little bit more. I would say I'm a little wiser about that, though. But I still do believe that people are basically good. Otherwise it'd be very difficult living life believing that everyone was out to get you and that everyone was evil. I mean, that could be a mindset shift right there. So thinking about, like, when I was a child, like, well, you know, what was the mindset of a child? You know, what did you do differently as a child that you did different, that you're doing differently now? And I believe that that's where the key to, like, the way you're feeling, that's where the key is. Because as a child, you're innocent. You're. I guess you could say, I don't want to use the word naive, but you're unaware of, like, a lot of things in the world. But also you're very selective with your focus. When you're a child, you focus on the negative things in life. I don't really think so. It's always like, oh, my God, candy, what do I have to do to get that Candy, what do I have to do to get that toy that I desire? Whatever it is. And these thoughts are constantly being focused on the thing that you desire. And as a way, children have this very, very good way of kind of shaping the world around them, especially if you have uncles to shaping the world, to getting the thing that they want. But nevertheless, even if they don't get the thing they want, they have a way of enjoying and being and having that moment regardless. So what did you pick up from this little story? Just seeing how a child looks at the world and, and seeing how the world, your view of the world shifts as an adult. I'll tell you, one of the biggest thing is your environment. If you're feeling crappy all the time, look to your environment. When I say look to your environment, I say look to the people you surround yourself with. Look to the media, the news, the whatever it is that you're consuming on a daily basis. You may say, well, you know what, I don't really turn on the tv, but maybe the people around you do. Maybe it's somewhere in the background. Maybe at work they always have the TV going, which is probably worse, because when it's going on in the background and you're doing work, it's like hypnosis, because you're aware of it, but you're not aware of it. And as a result of being in that relaxed state, it creeps into your mind and all sudden the beliefs that were never yours become yours, and you can't figure out why you're feeling the way you do. So what is it? The intention of this podcast here is for you to just kind of take a step back and say, okay, well, what has been going on? Like, yes, this is how I'm feeling. I acknowledge that. But why am I feeling that? And the last and most important thing is your focus. What are you focusing on? I mentioned, as a child, you're always focusing on the thing that you want, right? You never really, you don't even give a thought that there's a possibility that you're not going to get the thing you desire, right? It's just like, it's going to come. I'm just going to keep nagging my mom, dad, whatever it is, but it's coming. Where do you put your focus? Do you have that persistence of a child or do you allow, like the things that are going on around you to say, you know what? This is not going to happen. Things are getting worse. As a child, did the. Did these other things exist? Yes. Was the child aware of them? In most cases, no. If they were, would it have mattered? I'm willing to say no, it wouldn't have. So your energy, the emotion that you feel is all a product of where you put your focus. I know. Last finishing piece. Like, I have a vision board. You can see it right behind me up there. It actually is about 70 inches. It's huge. It's like four vision boards in one. But I know from when I'm looking at the vision board and I start to put myself into that place, into the state of the things I want to bring into my life. I feel different when I start my morning versus starting the morning and thinking I have to run out the door. And that life is escaping me when it's not one of the reasons why I'm here right now. Do I have things to do to. Yes. But when I think of the things that light me up, when I think of the things that the purpose that I want to have in the world, it is to empower, to inspire those that I touch with. And one of the ways I touch people is through this podcast as well as with my coffee. If you haven't tried my coffee, try my coffee. It's one of the best that I've ever tried. But then again, I'm biased. So your assignment today is just to simply look at where you're. Think about your focus. Here's the assignment. When you were younger, what was your view of the world? What things did you want? What did you believe about life? And then fast forward to now, currently, what is your view of the world? And I don't want to say, like the things like, oh, well, yes, I believe that life, you can do anything. How do you live your life? You live your life the way you're saying. You describe it. If you're saying that like, you know, anything's possible with determination, hard work, Is that how you're living? Get real with yourself. Say, all right, well, what are the beliefs that are guiding me in my life right now? And then third, look at the people, look at the things in your environment. I've gone on trips where I could be, you know, like, anxious, feeling like I don't have enough time to do the things. I go into a different country. All of a sudden, everything shifts in a mom because all the environmental factors have been removed. What is your environment feeding you? How does it make you feel? And then lastly, I want you to simply look at the list that you gave, especially in the environment part, and say, well, what beliefs do I have to adopt? And by adopting these beliefs, how would I have to behave in the day to day? How would I behave differently? And then taking that environmental piece apart, what are the things that are not serving me? What are the things that I have to distance myself and what could I put in place to guide my focus to the things I want to make me feel better? That is all I've got for you guys. I hope you enjoyed this very whim podcast because it was on a whim, but nevertheless I think it's very important and I think if you were to take these tools, just this little simple advice, it would change the way you feel in day in an instant. And as always, it always helps to have really, really good coffee. So if you are a big fan of coffee as I am, you could check out my website, rous r a u s coffee.com because your days are the most important. The beginning of your day is the most important part of your day because it sets the road for the rest of the world the day to come. So my day always starts with good coffee and being present because once I have that footing then I kind of shape and shift the world rather than the world shape and shift me. And it's all about living a passionate and full life. So God bless guys. I hope you enjoyed this podcast and I will see you again soon.
