Donny Raus argues for starting your day with intention instead of stress and reaction. He covers mindset, prioritization, and self-care as tools to improve how you actually live.
Hi, guys. My name is Donnie Rouse and you are listening to the podcast One Life Me First. When you first wake up in the morning, what is your kind of like that gut reaction or actually said perfectly? Are you in reaction or are you actively planning your day the way you want it to unfold? The reason for this podcast today was that I noticed I had gotten in this routine of living in reaction. The moment I would wake up, I feel like I would go into this response of like, stress and overwhelm. And it was different than it was maybe a few months ago, because a few months ago I was taking the time to consciously journal and plan my day for how I wanted to unfold, as well as to look forward to the things I wanted to unfold in my life. And these are the experiential things, like what I want to create, the trips I want to take, maybe connecting with some friends that I haven't spoken in a very long time. But that wasn't the case. Now. Recently I had been just getting up and like, oh my God, what do I have to do now? And then all of a sudden I would maybe look at my phone and then I would just start getting texts and emails related to my business or maybe friends asking me simple questions that are very innocent questions and have, you know, I have no problem answering. It's just that I would feel this demand at the first thing in my day when I'm getting these texts, I see a text, I'm like, oh my God, I have to respond now. Can you relate? So then I said, I took a step back, I was thinking as I was sitting there, and I was like, this is crazy. Like, this is crazy. And when I say I'm sitting here, I woke up the following day and I said, I am going to put myself first. I have to set myself up to win. Because that's the only way I feel good in the morning, is by getting my mindset there from the news and the environment around me. My mindset was getting taken someplace else that I didn't want to go. So the only way to kind of hone in and guide it again is to start taking well. One, just being conscious and saying, well, how do I want my day to unfold? Two, being conscious saying, well, what types of information do I want to take in? What's going to put me in that great state? What's going to continue allowing me to grow and expand? For me, one of those things is reading. Because if you're reading, you're planting new ideas, new thoughts in your Mind, as opposed to everything that just kind of cycling around, demands of others, Facebook updates of friends, and whatever it is that don't mean a thing. They don't mean a single thing. And they're not going to progress your life. They're definitely not going to leave you fulfilled. If anything, most people, they put you in a quick state of comparison, in which case the rest of your day is now going to flow down, go down that path, because that's how you started. So it just starts to snowball. But if we want to be conscious of the life we're creating, we want to create a life that excites us, a life that we're fulfilled by, we've got to take active steps in the planning at the beginning of our day, because our days make our weeks, our weeks make our months, our months make our years, and our years make our life. What are the things you want to like? What is your morning like? Going back to the original question. Do you wake up in overwhelm or do you set yourself up to win by saying, you know what? These are the things that I am going to do first to put myself in that state where I feel good and I'm focused on what I want to create, the relationships I want to grow and build, and then I'll continue with my day. I'm willing to bet that the majority of the people listening to this are probably the latter. And there's nothing wrong with that. I go back and forth to that spot. It's just kind of keep. We have to just continually catch ourselves and to realign, realign, realign. Eventually, I believe we won't have to do that anymore because we'll be so used to focusing on what it is that we're driving towards that we won't get caught up in all the other commotion. So let's relate that back to life. Right? And I say that living your one life is not about like what you think you have to be the expectations or even worrying about, like all the demands and responsibilities you have. Those are. Yes, those are the responsibilities, important demands of others and expectations. Those aren't. We want to do away with those responsibilities. Yes, but I want you to focus on what is it that you want, what's going to make you feel alive, what things have you been putting off? What are the priorities in your life that you know that if you started to make good on those, they would literally change your entire life because they would change how you show up, they would leave you more fulfilled. You have memories where you could reflect back and when those times arise where you might not feel good or you're feeling a little bit less than in your perfect state, you have these memories where it would trigger and remind you, you know, what life is beautiful, that you have so much to be grateful for and so much to look forward to. What is it? What do you want to do? What are your priorities in life? What do you want to see? Who do you want to be? What do you want to do? What do you want to see? Sounds like a Dr. Seuss book. And what do you want to experience? If you have a few moments, take a piece of paper and just put it down on paper. And then if you want to take it a step further and kind of amplify the feeling of it, how would it make you feel? Get into your heart. How would you feel Once you accomplish, once you achieve, once you do this thing, what would it add to your life? So there's two types of questions. There's those, the brain functions we get in our mind. Those are the things then when we get into our hearts, that's how it's going to feel. That's how it's going to impact others. Those are the things that are going to move us to take those actions and make sure that we do the things we need to do up front and not let them escape. So that is all I have for you today. This was just a kind of a. This is not even a podcasting day for me, but I was felt inspired to come on here. And when I get those inspirations, I make it a point to get on and record because I like to think that inspirations are sources of the divine. So when they come, you got to take action on them. That is it. Guys, I hope you enjoyed this micro session. If you did, please share it with your friends and families, especially those who wake up and they're in that reaction state. This. Hopefully this will give them a little shake to say what's important to you? Think about yourself first in the state that you're in, because that is the reason it's so funny. A lot of people may take this as maybe being selfish, but it's not. Because unless you worry about yourself, and I don't even like using the word worry, unless you put yourself first, you can't give to other people, right? Think of how you are when you're in a great state. How do you respond to others? How do you respond to the demands of your day as they arise? Are you do respond better, friendlier? Are the relationships more genuine? Are you more composed. Are you able to think of ways to problem solve when those things arrive? Now think of when you're in a reactionary state. How do you respond to those who you love around you? Your friends, your family? And what happens when those unexpected things creep into your day? How do you respond? Likely it just increases the stress tenfold. So this is our time to put the stakes in the ground and say what is important both for our day and for our life. Again, thank you so much.
