Most people spend their entire life stressed without ever giving a single thought as to what it is they really want or what's important to them. See, I'm here to cut through all that noise connecting you to yourself and the life that you were meant to live. I used to slave away at a corporate job that I hated, but I broke through the social norms and pursued my passion. As a result, I own my own coffee company, I'm espresso Sommelier and I get to travel the world. You too can live a life that you love, but it starts with getting clear about what you want. It starts with a new decision. I'm your host, Donnie Rouse. You are listening to the podcast One Life Miracle Morning bs. You may have tried doing a cookie cutter like morning ritual that is supposed to make you more productive, help you get more done, put you in the mindset that where your day would be more fulfilling. But I was on a call last night and we were talking about morning rituals and some of the people there were sharing their morning rituals and they were just saying how it didn't really leave them feeling as good as it was supposed to. I stepped in and it reminded me of the time I read the book Miracle Morning. If you've never read it, it's a great book, but it prescribes this ritual for the morning where it's about I think an hour or two hours. I can't remember the exact time because I haven't read it in a while. But it's a physical activity, reading a book, meditation or prayer, this list of things to do. So I had tried it for a while and one of the things I noticed is that I wasn't getting the feelings. I wasn't getting the things that I was supposed to get to really fuel my day and push me forward in a different mindset. But that's when I realized there was a problem there. I was looking for someone else to prescribe a methodology to start my day, literally to live my life, rather than checking inside and saying, well, what is it that is going to make me feel good? What is it that's going to put me in the state where I want to create, share content, work on my business, have great relations, whatever it may be. We're always looking outward for the answers when the places we should be looking are dark deep inside of our own hearts? So before I go any forward, I want to give you a couple questions to answer. First, if you are doing some kind of morning ritual, what is your morning ritual and how does it make you feel? So I want you to get just kind of clear and conscious with whether or not you're actually. It's propelling you forward and it's helping you and supporting in your day or whether or not it's subtracting from you, subtracting from you means it's like that ritual. You're doing it, but you feel like you're just doing something just to do it. You're fulfilling that list of to do's and your morning rituals become part of it. So once you've done that, the next thing is, well, what is it that you want to feel in your morning? What are the feelings, the emotions that you want to feel that are going to propel you forward, that's going to push you forward to advance in your business, work on your relationships and live a day with the emotions you want to live? Maybe like excitement, with joy, with gratitude, curiosity. And the last question is, what are the things that are going to get you there? Right? Because there are certain things that we do that put us into a state of excitement. There are certain things we do that put us into a state of gratitude. Just like there are certain things we do that put us in a state of comparison, there are certain things we do that put us in a state of stress. So by knowing this formula, by saying, all right, well what do I have to do in order to get to the state? You can start to feel those emotions and you go there faster. So on this call, I was sharing my experiences with the group. I said I had read that miracle morning and I started doing, you know, like following the steps. But I noticed that something was off. I noticed I wasn't feeling the motions that I wanted to. And then I reverted back to. I was like, well, there were certain things that I had stopped doing because I felt like I had to follow this formula. One of the things that brings me the most joy is waking up at sunrise, well before sunrise, and going down to the water and watching the sun come up. When I do that, it seems like I am alive or I'm awake before the entire world is awake. And as a result, it's like there's this peace, there's this tranquility to my day where it just seems to flow and everything just has a feeling of flowing because I'm coming from like a very, very calm and peaceful state. One of the other morning rituals that I do is in the morning, if I don't go down to the beach, I will literally take a book outside with my cup of coffee and I'll sit There, read the book, and just literally sip my coffee and sometimes brew a second cup of coffee. When I was doing coaching, a lot of my coaching worksheets, a lot of the worksheets around experiencing life came from as the result of doing that and as a result of getting that done first thing in the morning and creating something all of a sudden gave me more confidence to approach the rest of my day. Sometimes I also like to add a little bit of running into it. And if I'm running, usually it's in the early, early morning too. I'll go down to the beach right before sunrise, again, moving my body, and it just feels good. So then why was I trying to put in someone else's formula in order to try to make my day better rather than looking, you know, what was already working? And it's this idea that people, like, there's answers outside of, like, someone else has answers that we don't. And I'm not saying that morning rituals are bad. And I'm not bashing the morning miracle book because I thought it was a great book. What I want you to do is literally check in to say, all right, how does this sit with me? Does this align with me? Is this working? And you don't need to do this with just your morning ritual. I mean, we all should really be doing this with everything in our life. Our careers, our relationships, everything. How is this working for me? Because then when you understand what is going on, like, if it's benefiting you or not, then you can make a change. So as I was doing all these morning rituals, I was like, all right, well, oh, no, no, no. I got a 30 minutes. I have to go. I have to do some activity. I started doing the activity. Okay, no, now the next 30 minutes, I have to go read. And literally, I was literally looking at a timer. And if you want to add stress to your morning, put yourself on a clock where now all of a sudden you're trying to follow a schedule, which is, again, it's not bad to follow schedule. But the way I was going about it and when I was sharing this with the group, I wasn't surprised to find that everyone else had experienced the same thing. And that's when I said. I said, listen, who is the one that you're supposed to check with? If it doesn't feel good, what are you supposed to do? Why follow this formula? And they all oblige. Like, yeah, we agree this is going a little bit off tangent, but it's kind of the same thing, right? Because our entire Lives, we're bombarded with things that saying we should want this, we should do this, we should do this. And sometimes we take those influences from society and we make them our own. We believe that they are thoughts from ourselves. I was talking to one of my friends and he was sharing this thing called ikiagi, I think it's called, or ikigai, sorry, ikigai, which is a Japanese philosophy about, like about living with your passion and creating a vision. And I don't really know if this was completely related to ikigai, but he was sharing an activity he was doing. He shared. He wrote down everything that he wanted in life, all the things he wanted to achieve, all the things he wanted to have, all the things he wanted to experience. And in that list he wrote down which one is my true desire and which one is society telling me that I should have. And he started going through with post it notes and then just pacing, you know, like put the society says the big, like the big house car. I love travel, I love hiking. And he started doing this and he started separating out the influences in his life or what was being influenced by, you know, the external forces. And I thought that was amazing because I started looking at that, I was going, it's so interesting. What is it that, where are the influences of my own life? And it doesn't sound like it's related, but it is related because these are things we're taking in, things we're reading where we don't question to say, okay, well how does this work for my life? Does it work for my life? If it does work for you, if it does align with you, then that's fine, then take it, borrow it. But if it doesn't, then let it go. So let's go back. So the point I'm trying to make here is before you do anything or whenever you take in new information, check in to see does this align me, how does it make me feel specifically with the morning ritual. So your morning ritual, What I think of my morning ritual, like what is it that I want to feel in my morning? I want to feel like, I want to feel excited for my day. I want to feel like there's purpose, like I'm contributing. That's one of the reasons I'm here right now. Because in the conversation last night I was reflecting on it, I was like, well, one of the things that makes me feel good at the beginning of my day is to get on here and share something that I feel is a value that could benefit other people. Once I do That I feel like there's been something that there's part of me that I've given. And as a result, it builds momentum in my day. And so I want to feel like I've given something. I want to feel gratitude. I want to feel peace. And what is it that you want to feel? Touching upon those first questions before, when I was doing it, the emotions I was getting when I was trying to follow this formula that was in a book, was overwhelmed, was stressed, was like, I felt like there was no time because I was always trying to, oh, I got to do this quick. Oh. And I wasn't completely even immersed in whatever it was I was doing because I was worried about having to get the, you know, the next thing that was coming and, you know, starting and then whatever, we'll just throw it out. So those were the emotions that I want. This. What I was stating was, like, the emotions I want to feel, how do I go about that? So I started thinking about, like, things that I'm grateful for. I pray in the morning, I step outside. That gives me the sense of peace. I come on here, live. That gives me the sense of contribution. I'll think about my day and I'll. Or sometimes I'll even look at, to be honest with you, I'll look at Pinterest because, you know, these things have, like, algorithms that pull in the things that you're interested in. One of my interests. I love, you know, Ferraris, I love manga, I love traveling. So as a result of being on this website and having all these different images of things that I'm interested flood in, my focus has gone there. Now I'm like, I'm actually excited. Yesterday was morning. I was looking at container houses. Didn't know I wanted a container house, but now I do. But what I'm trying to say is it put me in a good mood, and as a result, I carried on my day. I actually got a lot of things done that weren't even on my list of things to do. I don't like using the word to do list, but I got a lot of things done that weren't even supposed to be done, but they came up and I knocked them out quick, whereas sometimes they would have taken me ages to do. So let's go back to this question. What is your current morning ritual? If you don't have one, then just say you don't have one. And how does it make you feel when you wake up in the morning? Next, what is it that you want to feel like? What are the Emotions that would make this day or a new day worth living, that would make that new day one that you were proud of, happy and excited. At the end, when you were looking back, you'd be like, my God, that was a day well lived. And then lastly, what are the activities that will put you into those emotions? Think of it at the beginning of your day. I mean, you could literally make checkpoints throughout your day. Like if you want to say three breaks in the day to kind of reconnect and re hone in, to refocus on those emotions, those things you want to feel, could totally do that. But let's talk about. We're talking about the morning right now. What are the emotions you want to feel and what are the things that are going to get you there? And I think it's important to say also, again, I wasn't downplaying. There's very, very, there's importance to rituals. Because rituals, they literally, they help turn our brain off. So this way we don't have to think about, oh, what are we going to do today? Because all of a sudden, when we're faced with a new decision, the brain has to start working all of a sudden. But when we have the habit of doing something, all of a sudden the brain just goes autopilot. I know what we're doing. Don't have to worry about this. Let's just go on autopilot. So when you're doing that, you just want to make sure that you're getting the juice out of life that you want and going back to the food. Your food is your nutrients. Like, I start my mornings like, well, today I just got my wisdom, or this week I just got my wisdom teeth out. So I'm not really eating any kind of solid foods. I've been having yogurt, but normally I would do typically a couple eggs, some avocado, toast. Sometimes I'll even throw in a shake in there, like a smoothie. Feel great when I do it, you know, and it feels very clean, I feel very light. And then sometimes I overdo it with coffee. And then like, it's kind of a downward spiral. But I try not to do that. It depends what I'm trying to get here. Is that what you fuel your body with in the morning is going to impact the rest of your day. So make sure you're fueling it with wholesome food just like you would if you had a sports car for a body, right? Imagine your car was a. Your car was a Ferrari. Mine is Ferrari Testarossa. You're not gonna put crappy fuel in there. You're gonna make sure you do all the maintenance, everything you have to do in order to keep it running smoothly. Your body is the same way. So that's all I've got for you guys today.
