Donny Rouse walks through his morning routine of exercise, meditation, visualization, and prayer. He argues that customizing your routine to your own needs matters more than following someone else's formula.
Hi, guys. My name is Donny Rouse, and you are listening to the podcast One Life, My morning Routine. So I wanted to share with you one of my. One of the things that it's constantly changing. And by telling you what my morning routine is, it's to help you kind of create your own morning routine. But there are elements in the morning routine that I think will be magical, your day. If you're willing to listen to this and just listen to it in its entirety, I promise it'll be worth it. So what is the point of the morning routine? Ask yourself that question. What is the point of the morning routine? For some people, their morning routine is wake up, have a cup of coffee, get the hell out the door. So this way you're not late for work. But the question then is, well, what kind of. How does that set you up for your day? Right? What is your day like when you're living in that reaction? How does it affect your day? How does it affect your relationships and how you interact with others, let alone the feelings that you experience in a day? Right. You're in reaction. So the point of the morning routine is to prime us for our day. Said differently, you could say a way of giving to ourselves first, filling our own cup. This way, when we go out in our day, we could fill it. We're overflowing, and we could live positively. We can fill up other people's cups. Not necessarily constantly giving. But you know what? I'm coming from my morning routine, the first thing. And this is something. And as I tell you what my morning routine is, I want you to just kind of take this loosely. I'll give you at the very, very end, I'll give you some options that you can use to build your morning routine, but realize that it's not a cookie cutter. It's not a cookie cutter. I love when I read, like, books and I see blog posts and whatever it is online, everyone's saying, all right, well, for your morning, you have to do A, B, C, D, and E. I've done that before. And my morning sucked because it wasn't my morning. I was doing someone else's morning. So the best. Before I even start, the best morning ritual is the one that is going to make you feel good. And how do we know what makes us feel good? We try different morning rituals. Really? That's the starting block. Okay. So we established, in order for us to prime ourselves and to know what makes us feel good, we have to try different things. We have to experience it, because that will give us the feedback. So for me, what I do for my morning routine, then I'll go into something which will help you build yours and I'll as well as little practice that will make your morning magical. I do it on and off and it really depends on the mood, the weather, particularly the weather is. I start with a morning workout. I just started doing it again and sometimes if it wasn't the morning workout, I would just go for a walk somewhere near the beach, near the water, where for me it's a big one. It's just being outside, outside of the house, outside of the room and having some fresh air right at the get go that for me it shakes me, wakes me up really quick and just grounds me. The beautiful thing about the morning waking up before everyone else is there's this stillness to your day. And what I found is that stillness actually will carry into everything else I do after that if I give myself that in the morning. Secondly, what I try to do, and I don't always do it, especially if I'm doing weights in the morning, is I go right to, into my meal because I want to, I want to replenish the nutrients in my muscles. But if I wasn't doing that, if I was just doing the morning walk, I do visualizations, I look at my vision board, I look at my movie that I created where it's like this playing movie, that which, you know, if a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth 1 billion. So I look at the mind movie and I try to get myself into in that mindset of what it is that I want and the emotions that are the emotions associated with it. Do I do it 100%? Meaning do, am I like, do I always feel it? No, to be honest with you, I don't. But there are many times in which case I do. And like everything in life, it's not about like the getting it right every single time. It's about building the habit to say, this is where I'm putting my focus. After that I will do a meditation. I meditate for 10 minutes. Again, this was loose because sometimes I would do and then sometimes I would cut it out. But when I noticed, when I did cut it out, like my mind, like, you know, say I've been doing it again, but say like last month my mind was just going crazy. Like I noticed the overworking of my mind. So, so I was like, okay, you know what, I should add that back into my morning routine because I could see that it's beneficial and I'm getting a Little bit out there. I pray, so I ask for, when I pray, I do a couple things. One, I ask for God. Whatever your belief is or isn't is totally fine. But I believe there is God. So I pray to God and I say, I ask for guidance. I ask for to be used for the well being and to make a difference. I look for things in my day and I say, listen, keep my thoughts positive. I pray for loved ones. And then I will also, in that prayer, I'll say a prayer to my higher self. Because there is a part of you that knows everything. And if you look on the days of who you've been, right, you can give your mind, you can give yourself instruction and say, okay, this is who I've been or these are the habits that I do that I don't want to do anymore. So I would pray for the consciousness. I say, make me aware when I am acting this way or when I'm doing this and replace it with this thought or this action, whatever it may be, as simple as it may sound, it works. Now in your day, as you're going in that day, you start to become aware because you've made that intention. At the beginning of your day, you start to become aware of when you're doing something that you don't really want to do. And you're able to make that correction versus being in that 95% of unconscious state where you're just literally going on autopilot. So it'll help break that autopilot, it'll help get you out of that oil. I can't even speak that autopilot system. And probably the last and most importantly, I mean, I might be missing some steps, but this was the main one. This is if there was like the big one, the big Oreo cookie. I like Oreo cookies. So it goes with the analogy. But if this were like the big one, it is visualizing your day at the end, in the beginning. Did you catch that? So visualizing your day as if you were looking at it from the completion of your day. So you look at all the things that you want to accomplish, you want to feel, you want to get done. Like the appointments, the deliverables, whatever it may be, you take them and you imagine yourself at the end of the day, each object, and you say, I say thank you, thank you, thank you for the magnificent outcome. To X. It could be to my workout, it could be to my podcast episodes. I did do that, that's why I'm here, doing three of them. And then you feel as you say, thank you. You imagine the feeling of having completed that to satisfactory or above satisfactory, and you just feel it and you say, thank you. And what you'll find, and this is like the magic stuff. What you'll find is as you go in to those objects in your day, one of the things you'll notice is like, if something starts to veer off, it'll autocorrect. You're like, no, no, no, no. This is how it's supposed to go. This is how I'm supposed to feel. Let's bring it back in line and let's move forward. And it's, I mean, not scary, but it's scary how accurate it is. And one of the things I want you to take away from that is that you are the creator of that. You are the one creating it, because you've created it here first. You've created. You can't see if you're watching this on video. I'm pointing to my mind. You created it in your mind first, and as a result, now you're seeing it play out in the real world. What is the lesson there is that everything first starts in our minds, everything starts here, and then we see it in reality. So I think I'll kind of like go through those and I'll kind of. Before I close, I'll just give you some things that you can add into your morning routine, whatever it may be. And like I said for myself, I swap out all these things all the time. My morning routine isn't always so concrete because I don't really like rigidity. I don't like being so rigid. I like to. Sometimes I'm in the mood for something different. Sometimes I want to, you know, I wait until, I don't even know, like late in the almost early afternoon, before I even eat breakfast. So let's go over those. So here are just some. Some things you could add. And again, you're building this for you because this is your morning routine, not my morning routine. Let's go there. So, one, you can start doing some kind of activity. So get your body. Wake your body up. Secondly, and this is probably. This is one that I would recommend, starting in the beginning is getting outside, getting into a light source because it lowers your cortisol, it wakes you up, and it puts you on, like, on that rhythm, you know, rather than kind of being in the dark or being near a dim light, you want to do that because it wakes the body up. Journaling. You can start journaling and, you know, putting down your thoughts, emptying the thoughts. And sometimes you might get ideas while you're sleeping and you want to capture those right away. So maybe journaling is the first thing you start with. Meditation, praying, trying to think, what are the other ones that do? But the visualization is a big one. And again, I'll go through that process very quickly one more time. So the visualization is look at your day. And you could do this a day, you can do this on the week, you could do this for the month, but it really works well for the day. Look at in your mind before you even start your day, when you're in that calm state of mind. Look at your day. Look at the things that are lined up and what it is you want the outcome to be. Seeing that outcome or knowing that outcome. I want you to say, for instance, like, today it was my workout. It was like, thank you, thank you, thank you for the magnificent outcome to my workout. So it sounds a little open, evident, but what does that mean? The magnificent outcome for me is feeling like that burn, but not feeling that flexibility, that burn. And feeling healthy, feeling vibrant, feeling like I have more energy so that. And feeling looser because sometimes I skip my stretching regimen. But I didn't today because I visualized it and then see it play. Imagine yourself, the feeling that you get from having that thing been completed the way you wanted it, and do that for every single thing that's in your day. I want you to do that and I want you to comment, I want you to email me, let me know what kind of difference that makes. Literally, it's like pure magic. And you don't even have to email me because I am certain I know what the result will be if you do it. It's going to transform your day. So that is it, guys. I hope you enjoyed this little rant on my morning ritual and I hope it'll inspire you to start, maybe wake up a little bit earlier and create your own morning ritual, putting yourself first, you know, because a lot of people, they wake up immediately, they're right in reaction, they're responding to everyone else rather than giving to themselves first, feeding their themselves, filling up their own cup so that there's more to give to the world. That is it. Guys, I hope you enjoyed this podcast. If you did, please give it a like, give a review.
