Most people spend their entire life stressed without ever giving a single thought as to what it is they really want or what's important to them. See, I'm here to cut through all that noise, connecting you to yourself and the life that you were meant to live. I used to slave away at a corporate job that I hated, but I broke through the social norms and pursued my passion. As a result, I own my own coffee company. I'm espresso sommelier, and I get to travel the world. You, too can live a life that you love, but it starts with getting clear about what you want. It starts with a new decision. I'm your host, Donnie Rouse, and you are listening to the podcast One Life, New Beginnings. Have you ever made a change in your life where you felt kind of off footing? Were you maybe you started to question the decision you made. You forgot the reasons why you even made it in the first place. So in moments like this, it's extremely important to remember why you made the decision in the first place. And with that, also doing a gut check as to what your body's telling you, because it could be easy to fall back in comfort and to revert back to who you were prior to making that change. And I'm using very generic terms here because that change could be anything. That change could be a move to a new city. That change could be the job that you were thinking of quitting. But rest assured that the reason you were moved towards making that decision in the first place was because something was being. You were being called by something higher. You were being called by more of life. And when that happens, the most important thing to remember is in order to get back on track, the only thing you need to get is. Is your footing back or start to gain momentum. So I just moved to Miami, Florida, and it's been nonstop. Just to give you a little bit of what the last month was for me. So I just finished my taxes for 2021 because I had gotten late. Was it 2021? 2022, sorry, wrong year. And I'd finished my taxes late, and I was getting ready to leave for Asia, needed to file right before my trip. So there was an incredible amount of stress trying to make that deadline before I left. And then in Asia, I had an amazing time. I visited Seoul, Hong Kong and Taipei, met so many amazing people. And the trip was everything that I wanted and needed for that time. And then home, I had one week to literally pack up everything that I needed to bring with me to Miami. I didn't bring everything, just Because I only left with my car. But I packed up my car and then did the drive here for three months. And then immediately after that, I had family, my siblings, a couple of my brothers, and my family coming down to Miami to spend a long weekend. And this is the second day that I actually have to myself. The beginning of the second day, I have to myself. And if I'm honest with you, it felt a little bit like I felt like my footing was off. I felt like I didn't know what to start doing next. I had just got off the. In the phone with one of my. With my accountability crew, and one of my good friends, my friend Vita asked me. She goes, well, you know, what was your plan when you sat down to go to Florida? What was your plan? And I told her, well, you know, to work on my course, you know, to pick up the. Start doing the podcast. And she's like, well, when was the last time you did the podcast? And thank you, Vita. And, you know, I told her it was right before my trip, but it felt hard to get back into it because I had lost the momentum that I had doing one episode a week. And so I was like, all right, well, I'll pick it up next week. And then I was like, no, no, no, no, no. You know what? I will do it now. So I just got off the call, and here I am. And the reason I am in here, because you may be on your way to making a significant change in your life, one that's going to kind of throw you off. It's going to have all of your family, your friends, questioning what it was that you are doing or why you're doing it. But know that you don't have to answer to anybody. Know the only person that you're responsible for is to yourself. Looking at my decision, come down here. And I'm actually going to be going back up to Connecticut next week because, surprise, surprise, I have to go get a hernia surgery. I'm laughing about it now. But the entire time leading up to you trying to figure out what the heck was going on was a little bit stressful, to say the least. And I'm going back. And again, it felt like I wasn't having. I wasn't getting my footing, you know, like, I have two days here, but it felt like I wasn't setting my foundation, my routines. And I'm sure you've probably been there, right? You've probably been where you made some changes in your life, and all of a sudden, now you feel like maybe you're getting pulled back into another direction, or you're not fully able to embrace this new direction or change because there are other things you have to settle. So if that is you, then relax. This is all part of the process. And a lot of the mental strife that you're going through is literally just internal struggles, right? It's. I know from my mind, I'm like, oh, well, I don't want to go back there because, oh, I don't want to get sucked back in old patterns. But the truth is, the matter is the change has already been made, right? I already made the decision. I'm here in Miami, and only good things are going to come. And what I'm trying to say is that when you stop taking action or when you have this gap, right, like that I just came back from my trip, and then this move, it's easy to lose momentum. It's amazing how you could, like going to the gym. You take a day off, you can get back in. Take two days off. Yeah, that's easy. I can get back into it. You take a few weeks off, all of a sudden now you feel like you're starting from scratch, right? Like, used to be able to do 135 pound on a bench, and now you could do 10. So it's kind of like that. But what happens once you start to just say, you know what, I'm going to show up, I'm going to do the work, I'm going to just put forth my best effort. You have that muscle memory. All of a sudden, you start to come back, it starts to get easier, and you start to find your. You start to find your groove again. And so that is the encouragement, because having had the challenge for my friends, I am getting back into the groove. And again, the parting note, what I want you to be okay with is the fact that it's not always comfortable, is the fact that there is uncertainty, is the fact that you will not always feel like you know the right direction. But I also want you to trust that you are always guided. In closing, you know, this. This trip has been a big experience. One of the reasons behind doing it was because I had always wanted to experience living on my own. I always wanted to experience starting in a new space, knowing nobody. And it was a lot. You know, having done that, it's a lot scarier than. Or I want to say scary. It just. It's a little bit more unsettling than I thought it would have been. But then I always remember, I'm like, well, no, but this is What I signed up for, this is what I wanted. And already I've met like, so many amazing people in just the, like, little. The two days I had to myself. So it was totally, totally what I needed and wanted. But I want you to know that you're being guided for a reason. When you made a decision, when I look back and I say, okay, well, oh, man, it'd be so easy. I missed. There are things of Connecticut I miss. But when I think about, all right, well, why did I. Is there any part of my being that is doubting the decision I made? And I know with beyond a reason of a doubt that there is no doubt in my mind that this was the correct decision for me. Because this was just the kind of the starting or the jumping off point for me to try, you know, a new city. And then from where I go after that, I do not know. But one thing that I do know for certain is that I am always in pursuit of my one life, of my ideal life, finding and pursuing the joys of life, right? Because you only get one life. You hear me say it all over and over and over. So in closing, what is the decision that you made or maybe you have to make? And then also maybe you can look at it and say, all right, well, what are some of the discomforts I'm going to experience as a result of making that decision? Because sometimes just by asking what the discomfort is, right, you come to terms with it and you're like, all right, well, yeah, I know I'm in a new city and God, it's gonna. It sucks going to Trader Joe's because the new Trader Joe's, they confuse you get be lost an hour looking for two items. That happened to me. I was literally in Trader Joe's for an hour picking up like five items because it was just so overwhelming. But when you know what you are going to. About to experience, you could say, well, you know what? Knowing that am I so willing to move forward, in which case you say, of course I'm still willing to move forward. And then you just go for it full tilt. That is my advice to you. That is how I am dealing with it. And I promise you that you will get out on the. You will come out on the other end. You just have to have faith. And of course you have to have good friends who support you and will remind you as to the reasons you were there and doing what you're doing in the first place. So I hope you enjoyed this episode. If you did, please give it a thumbs up. Leave a comment, ask a question, share it with someone who needs to hear it. As always, live passionately, live fully, and most of all, live now. God bless you guys. Thank you so much for tuning in, and I will see you again next week.
