Hi guys. My name is Donnie Rouse and you are listening to the podcast One Life Routine Scrambler. Have you ever been somewhere for an extended period of time only to find that all those routines that you set so hard to set in place just seem to kind of crumble away? If you have, then this one is for you. This is something you can use to establish those. Re. Establish those routines, I should say, and start aligning yourself with the things you want. And by doing what I'm about to tell you, what will happen is you will align yourself to better choices and you will let the unimportant things kind of trickle away. I am currently living in Miami, Florida. The decision to move here came as a result of not being able to really bear the winter anymore. The cold weather was kind of getting to me and plus I wanted to change the pace. I. I wanted to be outdoors more. So Florida, what the heck. When I made the trip here the first couple weeks, it was very challenging to get back into that routine up north. I'd been up north in Connecticut for my entire life and my routine as a result was pretty much set in stone. Between my work, my workouts, my meals, everything. When I came to Miami, all that seemed to fall by the wayside. But the one thing that I was very religious about doing was running. When in the summer, spending summers in Connecticut, one of the things I always did was when it was sunny out, I would take, I would drive to the beach early, early morning for sunrise and I would take a run around the track and then I would go home and then I would start my day. As a result of doing that, my day just seemed to flow like I felt this peace because I was, felt like I was waking up with the world fast forward. So here in Miami, you would imagine that, you know, there was that when I just got here, I was going out a lot. I would always constantly staying at a hostel. I was meeting people from all over the world and all over the country. And as a result of that, you kind of want to spend time with the friends you just made. And that usually happens later in the evening because everyone's hanging around, they're talking, they're having some drinks. Great for making friends, horrible for making progress in your, in your profession, your career and your health. Because you go to sleep late and then you wake up and you don't really feel that good when you wake up late. Right. I believe that your body needs a certain rest. Usually go to sleep around like 10 before 11 o' clock and you wake up at least I wake up rested, feeling like a billion dollars. While I was here in Miami, that wasn't the case. I found myself always going out, always kind of bending, you know, like, I'm like, oh, well, you know what? When am I going to do it again? Might as well let me just go now. And I would go out and my days would reflect that decision. But one thing I started doing, and I had been doing it ever since I came here, was I set it in stone, a keystone habit. I did not bend on that. And that keystone habit was the habit that I had back home, running every morning and letting that be the start of my day. So here's what happens when you do something such as an activity as running. By doing the running, you're changing your entire physiology. You're oxygenating your body. As a result of that, everything changes. Your state changes, your mood changes, you feel better, you feel healthier as a result of doing that, even if you were drinking the night before. Maybe it's like a little detox. I didn't always do it in the morning, but I made sure I did it. And day after day after day after day. While it wasn't this linear line of me always waking up at the right time, some days I would wake up a little bit later. But I always tried to make it earlier and earlier. As a result of doing it earlier and earlier, I started going to sleep earlier and earlier, realizing one, that the enjoyment that I got out of doing the running early morning when no one else was awake was far superior to anything I could experience at night. And then secondly, there was this peace in my day that I felt it was like this waking up with the world. I remember that those were the moments. Those were the things that I cherished the most, and those were the things that would make me productive. Those were the things that would put me in this head space where I can give on this podcast, through my coffee company and the other facets of my life. But where so many people get hung up is that they don't have this keystone habit to kind of anchor down and then fix the rest of their day as a result of doing that work at early morning. Now, all of a sudden, I was eating healthier, I was drinking more water because after doing a run, I needed to replenish. I was also having a lot of coffee, but that was actually one of the things that got me up in the morning because I would run down the beach, and on the way back, I will grab an espresso at my favorite cafe, the it Italian Tortoria. And on the way back up, I would walk usually and I would read a book. So I had everything going on. My entire morning routine back home was now all intertwined with this morning run. And what. What I want you to understand is one, don't be so hard on yourself, right? Because when you're doing that, when you're beating yourself up, you're not gonna move forward, you're not gonna make the progress because there's just this. You're holding on to this resistance. But if you're leaning to yourself and you're forgiving to yourself, and you show yourself that self love, then all of a sudden you can say, okay, you know what? Tomorrow I'm gonna do it better. So establish that keystone habit, that think thing that's gonna affect everything else. I think that that keystone should be working out at the beginning of your day because it sets how you eat, and how you eat also affects your mood because your blood sugar and all this other stuff. And then two, set it up so it comes early and early. You'll notice that as a result of feeling good, your decisions, like I said, your decisions are gonna change. You're gonna make more empowered decisions because your state's gonna be better. And then as a result of having. If you're doing a completely new routine like I did, the habits, the things that didn't really serve you, the things that you were doing, and maybe they didn't give you any kind of result, seem to fall away. So let's put this on paper because the only way for it to make. To make it stick with you is for you to actually do something and put it on paper. So let's start with a little bit of a habit on it. What are the habits you do on a daily basis? And I'll tell you the truth, you're probably not going to know them all because some of these things you've been doing so long that they're. You're unconscious. You just do them habitually. Your brain just turned off the switch and says, okay, I don't have to be conscious while I'm doing this anymore because, you know, it's easy. Take a pad of paper, write down, what are those habits you do on a daily basis? When you look at those things, I want you to say, how does this make me feel? Is it good for you? I don't care if you enjoy like a half an hour of cartoons in the morning, right? If that's your pleasure. And that puts you in a great state. So the rest of the Day you are knocking it out of the park. Then go watch those cartoons. Go do whatever it is that's going to make you smile, that's going to put you in a joyous state. And then look at the things that aren't serving you right, look at the things where you don't feel good doing them, look at the things that aren't contributing anything to your day. And I'm not saying that everything has to contribute something positive, but at the very least that should make you feel good. Otherwise, why do it? And then once you see these things, look at them and say, okay, well what is the thing I could put at the beginning of my day that's gonna impact everything else that I do? Maybe you wanna do the my workout routine and you're all sudden, now you knock out that cartoons and you're feeling like a million dollars and you add it to the end of the day, whatever it is. But choose something. Choose something that's gonna change your state, that's gonna get you out of bed early, early morning and maybe even outside. Because just having that state change is going to put you in a more receptive state. It's going to put you in a better flow because you're not just kind of going around those daily routines thinking oh my God, life sucks. But you start to get outside, you start to breathe, you start to see that wow, life is happening. There's so many beautiful things. What do I want to create today rather than just habitually going through those day to day, going through the motions of the past, conditioning the past experiences. That is all I've got for you guys today. This was a little bit of a rant. Again, I am in my hostel room sitting on the floor doing this. So it's not at the comfort of my desk, but nevertheless I wanted to get on here because I wanted to make sure 1. I wanted to say hello, see how you guys are doing.
