Donny Raus argues that manifesting fails without action. He shares how writing a book and training for a physique contest taught him that visualization alone doesn't work, imperfect action does.
Hi guys, my name is Donnie Russ and you are listening to the podcast One Life. You ever try manifesting something, only realize that it doesn't work? There's a reason to that and something I learned this past year and is that in order for manifesting, in order for intention to work, it must be put into action. Long time ago, I had a friend, well, I still have a friend, my friend Jennifer, she would read the emails that I would normally send out through my rouse coffee and she goes, oh my God, your emails are great. I have this feeling that one day you're going to be an author. And every time she would receive an email, she would say the same thing. And over the years we meet for coffee and she would repeat the same thing. So she probably planted that little seed in my head. Years went by and I'm like, well, what the heck am I? Yeah, I would love to write a book, what the heck am I going to write a book about? And never, you know, I would think about it as something I wanted to aspire to do, but never took any action on that. Recently I decided to write a book. And it's all around the idea of living one life, living in life that's true and authentic to you. A life full of passion, joy and excitement. And the difference, the reason why it's happening now hadn't happened in the past, was because I decided to take imperfect action. You cannot have an intention without action, right? It's like saying you want to be happy, so your intention is to be happy. You say, I'm happy, I'm happy, I'm happy, happy. And then nothing changes. In order for do that, you might have to put yourself in a place of happiness where maybe around people or maybe changing your physiology and you have to do things in order to trigger this happiness response. We're conditioned to think that by just wishing something that it's going to come to us when that's not the case. The case is that whatever we want in life, we put the intention out there. And I do believe that intention is what's going to draw that towards us. But where the rubber meets the road is through imperfect action. See, someone could try to take a perfect action and never take a step forward. They take one step forward, two steps back, one step forward, two steps back. And all of a sudden, now they're so far away from the goal because they never even started. But the thing with imperfect action is imperfect action brings in new action. So you take an action, it might not be perfect, but as a result of that Imperfect action, you learn something new, you meet different people, you come up with a new understanding as to what it is you're going. Almost like the. The idea of a. Of a rocket ship going off to the moon, right when the. When the rocket ship, before it's even taken off, they know what kind of trajectory it has to take in order to reach its final destination of the moon. But until that fight, until that rocket takes off, until the boosters are fired and it actually goes up, it's never going to get to that destination. The only way it gets to that destination is by taking off. Then once it's in the air, there's other little thrust, you know, thrust jets or whatever it is that kind of, like pivot and move that ship into, like, different things, always realign it with its end goal, that end destination, which is the moon. So it's very similar to life. We take these. We. We're pursuing something, we want it so bad, and we'll come up with these visualizations. And the visualizations, they actually, they feel great in the moment. I mean, you could do some visualizations and feel like you have the thing, which is a trip in and of itself, which makes you realize, you know, I don't even need to have the thing. I can get all the feelings I want without even going to try to obtain it, and putting forth all the effort. But it's that very effort that gives us fulfillment. It's that effort that makes us grow. So thinking about the visualization, like anything you want to create in your life, anything you have the intention to put forth, you must first take action. I did it with the book that I just mentioned, but also for my body. When I did my physique contest, the physique was, you know, I wanted to. I had wanted to have, like, this ripped. I'm pretty ripped now, but I wanted to have, like an amazing physique. I was always very lean. I always had a very good muscle build, But I wanted to take it to the next level. The competition that I joined pushed me to do that. But if I had just sat there wishing for my body to get better, thinking that something was going to happen by me just doing the regular thing that I was doing day in and day out, then I had another thing coming. But after making that intention and then putting forth the energy, putting forth the action to make my body, to bring it to that competitive state, I had to take a lot of different actions, and I had to learn a lot through those actions until the, you know, then I come the event And I still learned as a result of the imperfect action. So it's this feedback loop that keeps happening. You learn, you change, you go forward again, you learn, you change. And you get better and better as you go on. So that is like my. That is what I feel. People who. Man. Like people who manifest, they think that they have to have the. They have these visualizations and that if they just sit there and visualize it, it's magically God is going to deliver to them, which I will not. I will not. I'm not going to knock that because I do think that there are forces at play that do bring these things to us. But at the same time, you have to go out in the mid. You have to go out into the world to get it right. You're not going to have it sitting at your desk or laying in your bed watching reruns of 90 Day Fiance. It's not going to happen. If you want to have that inspiration, you have to seek it. And by taking those steps, the universe, God says, you know what he means business. And then that ras the particular activating system, your mind starts to see the different things coming at you and it starts to sort out what is important, what's not. So that is the power of taking action and visualizing. Visualizing alone won't do it. But I will say maybe if you're really, really good at visualizing. So point of visualization is to be able to feel that result as if it's already happened. And by feeling that result and making it feel so real, you create the belief. You create the identity in your mind that this is how it's supposed to be, this is who I am. When you create that, then you can start taking different action. So there's two different ways to take. To develop that belief. To take action that you are good enough or that you can. You could change the belief system, which is what you do by doing these visualizations. Or you could put yourself in a new environment, environment that allows you or will cause you to stretch and grow. So I will use the same example of the writing. The. Well, not writing, but I'll use the physique contest. Prior to that, I never thought in a million years that I would ever step on stage. Never in a million years. But as a result of doing it now, now it's become like. It becomes like second nature. I know exactly what I have to do to get back into that state, to get into shape, to be in competition, in competition mode. I know exactly what I have to do. And developed. I Didn't have that belief before, but now there's this newfound confidence inside as to what I can create and what I'm capable. I had that one experience. The same thing is true of life. As you put yourself into these experiences, into these. Well, yeah, experiences, you start to develop a new identity for yourself. At first, it might not be that comfortable. Maybe it is. You want to be able to hit a 90 mile per hour fastball. Whatever it may be. I don't even know. So you go to the batting cage, and you're sitting with one of those machines. At first, you can't hit a single ball at 60 miles an hour. But then all of a sudden, you're sitting there. You know, after 200 swings, you start to realize, oh, I tipped one of the balls. That's better than the last 200 I had before that. And then all sudden, 201, you. You actually connect with it, and it kind of flops a little bit in the front. Then on the third one, you connect with it and you're hitting it all the way to the back of the net. And then as the. As you get better, you slowly start to increase that speed and you start to connect more frequently. And now you have this new belief system that, wow, I could hit a 90 mile per hour fastball. Like, it's easy. And it's all because you had the experience. I'll never forget. There is this. There is this video on YouTube. It's this little kid who is going down a ski slope. Apparently, he'd gone down this a slope that wasn't as vertical, and he's on this much, much higher slope. And his father is talking to him. He's like, dad. He's like, I'm nervous. The father tells me, hey, don't worry about it. This is just like the one you were just on. He's like, really looking at the slope, and he's like, yeah, I promise. And he looks back, he's like, okay. And then he thrusts off. He throws himself over the edge, flies down the hill, and then all of a sudden is screaming and he's cheering, and now he's ready. And then he's like, he wants to go back up there and do it again. Because he created this new belief. What was scared him before, what he thought was impossible, he now changed. And now he has this new belief about himself that he is a number five steep skier. I don't know what the heck that is, but he has this new belief of himself that says, I can ski the steeper slope. And that's what the experience does for our life. Guys, thank you so, so much for tuning in. I feel like I was a little bit off on a rant, but I think it ended up in a good place. So if there's any if there's one takeaway that I wanted you to get from this is that visualizations are good and a lot of time doing the visualizations can push you to action. If you're doing it really, really well and it makes and it changes your identity. But the other way to change your identity, the other way to change your belief system is to just go out and do it. Take imperfect action. Because it's by that action you will start to create a new identity for yourself. Have an awesome week guys.
