Donnie Rouse talks about living authentically by following your own path instead of societal expectations. He covers purpose, financial freedom, and self-fulfillment, encouraging you to make meaningful choices aligned with your passion.
Most people spend their entire life stressed without ever giving a single thought as to what it is they really want or what's important to them. See, I'm here to cut through all that noise connecting you to yourself and the life that you were meant to live. I used to slave away at a corporate job that I hated, but I broke through the social norms and pursued my passion. As a result, I own my own coffee company. I'm espresso sommelier, and I get to travel the world. You too can live a life that you love, but it starts with getting clear about what you want. It starts with a new decision. I'm your host, Donnie Rouse. You are listening to the podcast One Life Uniquely you. Every single one of us has an expression that we were brought here to share on this earth. There's a quote that I heard a long time ago, and it says, if you don't have a plan for your life, someone else does. Now, I'm about to tell you a story, and it kind of goes with the story, but it kind of doesn't. Because what I really want to talk about today is about your purpose, your reason for being here. So that when you go out in the world and you're doing the work and when you're doing you your best expression, the best expression you can give the world is by following your heart, by doing the things that light you up. That is your purpose. And so the point really behind sharing this is to understand that every single one of us has a purpose. But if we're just kind of going the flow, we're living someone else's plan for our life. And that is not the way to live your one life. That is not the way to live a life full of passion, joy and excitement. All the stuff that I want to live. How about you? So let me ask you a question. Whose life are you living? Question number two. Do you feel purpose behind the work that you're doing? And number three, what is it that you would want to do? Very, very easy questions, very surface level questions, but nevertheless, at least they'll maybe give you some awareness as to, well, you know what, something needs to change. And hopefully by the end of this, you will feel a more like a sense of uniqueness, a sense of personal calling to pursue the life that you're meant to pursue. A life that you were meant to live. I was having a meeting with a friend of mine and we were talking about like, financial. Financial freedom. And he's like, oh, well, you know, I'm getting mentored by these people he said, well, let me ask them if they'd be willing to, you know, to talk to you because, you know, the mentorship is kind of closed and let me just see. So I'm like, okay, sure. All right, let's. So we made it meet. We set a meeting, we went to speak. And then as we were. We were talking, he started asking me some questions as to whether or not I needed to feel purposeful in the work that I was doing and whether, you know, I was like, well, not really sure what I mean about what you. What. What you mean by that. And there was also a comment about putting off the rewards or the. For some later point in life. Like, there's a saying that says the further to have success. It's something about, like, being able to not forego the rewards or the current pleasures, but putting it off. This way you can enjoy it later on. I'm butchering the phrase, but I think you'll still get the point. But there are two things that I disagreed with, you know, that I don't believe that you should put life off. Like, I. You have to be smart about it, right? You have to plan for the future. There's one of my favorite quotes that says, don't live today at the cost of tomorrow. Don't live for tomorrow at the cost of today. Meaning there has to be the balance. So I was saying how, like, you don't know when your life is going to end on this earth, right? You can go out and you get hit by a bus tomorrow. As I think Mel. I think it was like Mel Robbins said in one of her. Her Instagram posts, anything could happen. So the idea, at least in my mind, of the idea of putting off the things I want to do for some future point so that it may happen in the future is ludicrous. Stupid. So sharing with this. And then he commented on, you know, the feeling purposeful. He said, well, you know, this work, in order to do this, you know, you have to, you know, not really feel that purpose, but know that you're, you know, you're doing a service. You're obviously. That doesn't resonate with me either, right? I need to feel purposeful. I need to know that I'm making an impact in whatever it is I'm doing because I want to do what I'm doing with my whole heart, right? I'm not gonna do something because I'm trying. I'm waiting. Yes, I'm providing a service, something that's beneficial. Okay? And. But I. It's really with the anticipation of this future payouts. This way, I. I could live this financially free life now. Yeah. Do I want the financially free life? Of course. Who doesn't? But do I want to spend the rest of my days doing something that I don't find fulfillment to get there? No, not for me. I would rather do work longer doing something that I found fulfillment, something that I felt like was fulfilling my sense of contribution. The very reason I was brought on this earth, which is to make you guys live your most wonderful life, to wake you up to the life that you're meant to live. I feel more fulfillment than that. But the idea of going on a different path for the sake of reaching this point of financial security, but not being fulfilled with my work wasn't sit jiving with me. How about you? Like, how do you feel about the work you're doing? Does it jive with you? And this could be triggering. Maybe you're in a career that you completely hate right now, but it's providing with the income and, you know, it's comfortable, it's stable. No judgment here, no judgment at all. I'm hoping that maybe I could just kind of create a little bit of awareness to say, okay, well, what would a life that was centered around your passion, around your sense of contribution, what would that look like, and how would you go about doing that? Let's just kind of ruffle this feather, so to speak, just to kind of thinking outside the box. Well, what would that look like? What if you could have make a living or have that financial abundance, but doing the thing that you love to do, your sense of contribution, the thing that you were brought on this earth. Because I do believe every single one of us, we're all unique in our way, you know, how we perceive the world. We're all unique in our gifts. And we were brought here to share that expression of ourselves for the greater good of humanity. What if you can do that? How would that affect your life? I recently met a. A new friend of mine, and she was talking about, like, you know her. She was just sharing some of her stories. You know, she'd come from a marriage where they were very, very financially free. Talking about, like, private helicopters, jets, and all this stuff. I'm like, that I couldn't even. I couldn't even perceive. I'm like, oh, my God. Wow, that sounds amazing. But what does it, you know, what does that mean? I mean, maybe, you know, for her, that's awesome. But what does it mean for you when you're chasing something that just for the Sake of doing it. Maybe it's keeping up with the Joneses. Maybe because you feel like these are the things that you must have, those are the things you have to strive for. This way society will say, hey, you've got it, you've done great. I've experienced that in my I'm looking for an apartment or whether or not I should buy or rent. And in doing that, I was looking at some places and one of the thoughts that came to my mind was, well, what are other people going to think when they see this place? If I were to go with the place that was in my budget currently, I was worried about what other people say. And that's stupid because, well, one, who cares what other people say. I know my friends wouldn't judge me. Who cares what other people think about your life? Because this is your life, it's no one else's life. You've got to live this life to fulfill yourself, to say, yes, I'm living the way I want to live, I'm living independently, because that is what I feel is going to give you the biggest sense of satisfaction. I was talking with one of my friends, my friend Emile from Holland. I met him when I was in Ireland and we were talking about what life would look like. What do you want? He said, well, I want to try living in a different country. I want to experience the independence. But he had other things going on. He had a career that he just started. He also had a girlfriend for a long term girlfriend. They were kind of in conflict. I said, well, it's not necessarily that you can't do any of those things. I mean, you could have an honest conversation, career, you have plenty of life. I think he was 23 or 25, so lots of years. There's going to be, you know, many career changes probably, but I was trying to show them, like open that window to say, listen, there's plenty of opportunity to do the things that you want to do, to have this experience or whatever it is that you're going to feel most fulfilled doing. And also because if you're being called to do something, it is in service of your soul to go do it. Because through that experience it'll create fire off new ideas, new new conversations, new relationships and will progress you forward on this path of unfolding. So going back to it, what is it that you really like? What is it that you're experiencing right now? Are you happy with your career, what you're doing or where you're headed in any area of your life? Why are you doing it what if you can live a life that you were passionate about doing the thing that you would want to do, doing what would make you feel the greatest sense of contribution. Because what does that even mean? Right? I used to think about the contribution for me had to be this grand old thing. Like I was a big fan of Mother Teresa when I was in college. So reading her books, I felt like I had to be this sacrificial lamb and, and that I had to save the world. And if I didn't, then I was a failure or I wasn't holding up to my end of the deal. It was just stupid because I was beating myself up. But rather what are the ways you want to. And that was still something. I have a pact that I had made with myself, with a friend who had passed about coffee for humanity and change for coffee, that stuff which is a different conversation completely. But what makes my soul feel alive is to live my life in the most inspiring way by doing the things that make me feel joy, passion and excitement for life with the intention of passing that torch onto you to making you see how I'm experiencing it. So this way you may experience in the same way and you may carve your own path. Not that you have to travel the world, it could be anything. But the journey is yours, right? No one, you can't live anyone else's life. No one else could live your life. You have to choose how you are living your life now. It may be scary because you have to. You're going to be bumping heads against culture, against society, your family, even your own inner thoughts as to what is permissible, what's not permissible, what you're able to do, what you're not able to do. But you have to go through that journey because that's what's going to make life worthwhile. That's what's going to make bring out your full expression. Because that, that is really, that's what the world doesn't need. Another, another Tom Cruise or another. You don't have to replicate anyone else, right? I'm here speaking with this to you, like speaking like this to you, trying to ignite a little spark to inspire you to live life or to choose differently a life that is going to fulfill you life that you find passionate and fulfilling. A lot of the stuff that I'm talking about, it's nothing new. Tony Robbins and every other self. I don't even want to say self help, but like life coach or inspirational person, it's nothing new. They all kind of say the Same thing. And I'm not trying to be anybody else, but share what I want to share from my heart and share the experiences that I'm having with the hopes that it'll inspire you to kind of do a little of that digging and to carve your own path and take that journey yourself. So again, you only, like I always leave my episodes now saying, you only get one life. Live it. You do only get one life. And the more you put the focus and really understand that not a single day is for granted, right? Not a single day is guaranteed. When you realize that, you start to look at things differently. You start to look at your choices differently. You start to look at the relationships you have differently. You start to look at the work you do on a daily basis differently. Because you realize that life, you know it's ticking, right? It's ticking. I don't like to think about that because then it almost stirs this, like this urgency. But sometimes that urgency is what's going to move you to action. Sometimes that urgency, it's what's going to make you make the tough decisions. But they don't have to be so tough. They could be small little tiptoes, right? The journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. Building the coliseum starts with laying the first brick. Building the house starts with the first brick. Lay that first brick for yourself and then just be open to the guidance of yourself. Trust in yourself, that unfolding part of yourself that the gift that you're here to give will channel through you. So this way you can give it out to the world. I don't even know if that makes sense, but hopefully it makes sense to you and you understand what I'm trying to say. What I'm trying to say is step into yourself. Don't let anyone else influence what you say, feel, do want to be. But listen to that internal guide within, because we're all unique. Just like a snowflake. Not a single snowflake is like any other snowflake. Nobody is like you. You were born here with a unique gift, with a unique talent, something to give the world. Make sure you give it. Don't let it. Don't let it pass. The world needs you. Hope you enjoy this podcast, guys. Again, kind of like on a whim, but what I really wanted to share. But if you did, you can give it a thumbs up.
