Most people spend their entire life stressed without ever giving a single thought as to what it is they really want or what's important to them. See, I'm here to cut through all that noise, connecting you to yourself and the life that you were meant to live. I used to slave away at a corporate job that I hated, but I broke through the social norms and pursued my passion. As a result, I own my own coffee company. I'm espresso sommelier, and I get to travel the world. You, too, can live a life that you love, but it starts with getting clear about what you want. It starts with a new decision. I'm your host, Donnie Rouse. You are listening to the podcast One Life Waking Up. Anytime you do something unique said, something different than what the masses are doing, you're going to encounter resistance. That resistance could be coming from people who love you very much and people who want the best for you. But if you are to live a life that's full of passion, if you are to live a life that literally you find most fulfilling, it's going to require you to break that break through the noise, to go against the grain and to do the thing that everyone's telling you that you shouldn't do. So before we get there, we'll answer a few questions or I'll ask a couple questions, and you're going to answer them. What is it that you really, really want to do? Like something? Maybe it's booking a trip. Maybe it's going into a new career path. Maybe it's starting a relationship or even ending one. What is one thing you want to do but haven't yet? And number two is, what is the resistance? What is preventing you from making that decision, from making that move? And the last question is, how would it feel if you did it? If you made the decision that you were putting off? And then one more. What would likely follow? This is important to look years down the road to say, okay, well, you made the decision. Sure, up front. We can be afraid of making ruffling the feathers, so to speak. But when you look further out, a lot of the time those fears, they don't materialize or they just melt away. I have a late production day today, so I went to get some Japanese food and I went down to the water to eat it rather than literally. Sometimes I would literally eat in my car, but that doesn't do it. I'm like, well, if I'm going to eat it outside, I might as well enjoy it somewhere beautiful. So I went down to the sound while I was out there, I literally was enveloped by geese and seals. All of them, like, you know, trying to get my attention because I saw that I was eating something that I could easily share. I had a bento box let you know. There was one goose that literally was standing on the wall in front of me. And he kept calling out. He kept calling out. And then shortly after, I saw this line of geese coming towards him like a pack of them. He kept calling out. More and more kept coming. Shortly after, he started walking down the wall to the. Like, more towards the bay. And he's walking down the wall, keep calling, calling, calling. And all these geese which followed him to that point, then followed him to the other point, the opposite side. When I looked down at the water, I saw that there was one goose, one that actually separated from the path. And he was going out swimming towards the channel. And it was kind of like very symbolic because the water was coming in, right? So the wake is coming in, and yet he's going against the resistance, and he's making his own line, his own wake, so to speak, while everyone else was literally following the crowd. And as he was swimming out, he started calling. You could just hear him. I'm not really sure what kind of sound geese make, but we'll just call it a call. No one followed. He kept calling and calling and then kept swimming until he went out of sight. I think about experiences in my own life where there was people wanted different things. For me, when I wanted to make the decision for myself, I was met with a lot of resistance, and a lot of it was with good intentions. I'll give you two examples. One was my father when I initially said I was going to turn down job offers that I had and I was going to go travel. I mean, there were a lot of instances with my father, especially going into coffee. But we'll start with the travel. When I decided to travel, he was worried. He's like, you know, you know, worried about my safety so much to the point where it was creating a lot of internal noise, questioning whether I should, you know, whether I should do it, whether it's safe to do it. Thankfully, I did, and, you know, the rest now. It's one of the biggest joys I get out of life. But how about coffee, too? I was told to wait until I saved the money, wait until I had the financial footing, and then go out and start the business when I, you know, and then do all the stuff, then go travel, then do everything you want to do but work first. Something that didn't resonate with me. Had I listened to that, there's no. I wouldn't have the coffee company I do now. I wouldn't even have this. My cold Roman espresso, my gem. You know, everything happened and again, and I wouldn't wreck it transformed my life. And I'll give you one more instance. One was with my ex girlfriend. She had plans for my life. She was like, you know, we were just out of college. Two years later, she's like, you know what? We're going to get married, we're going to have kids, we're going to do all this stuff. I didn't even have a job at that point. We realized everyone had a idea for my life and had nothing to do. There was no input from me. So why do I tell you this? I tell you this because you may be afraid to make certain decisions in your own life. You may be afraid because what your parents may say, what go wrong doing something different just because it's what you're being called to do. And there's always going to be this fear. I mean, not just of what other people are going to say. There's always going to be a fear of, well, what if it doesn't work? What if I make the wrong decision and I'm telling you to just go ahead and do it because the very fact that you have the desire in the first place means that you were meant to. The very reason that you're having these doubts, these fears come up is because you were meant to. Your body wants to stay in this little box because it doesn't know what else is out there for your own safety. But what it doesn't know is that by doing so, it's literally killing you inside. So you got to go explore, you've got to go do whatever it is that your heart is calling you to do. So let's revisit those questions again. What is one thing that you want to take action on, but you haven't? Second, why haven't you taken the action on it? What are you afraid of? Like, what is preventing you? Who are you afraid of? Are you focusing on what may or may not happen? Get clear about what it is that's preventing you? Third, imagine that you've made the decision and you are now three years down the road. How does it feel? What other possibilities have come into your life as a result of making that decision? And four, how are those people? If you're worried about what people would say, what are they saying now? Some people, you know what you can't make Happy. Everyone has their own belief systems, you know, and sometimes this, unfortunately, it has more to do with the family, right? Because your parents might be. They have a certain way of doing, a certain way of looking at the world that is different from the way you're looking at the world. And it's going to be different from your kids when you have them. It's going to be the same thing. But you're hopefully, if you have children, you're not raising cattle, you know, you're there to nurture so that they can go out and make their own decisions. It's a very different way from doing it. But all I want you to walk away with from listening to this right now is to just heed that call. Whatever you're being called to do, entertain it. You don't, you know, you don't necessarily, don't even make the big jump right now, but answer the questions like, well, what would it be? How would it change your life four years out from now, five years out from now, one year out from now? Hell. And when things are great, when you, the people who were didn't want to see you fail or were putting fear in you, when they see you happy, when they see you succeeding at the very thing, what is their response?
