What's The Frequency - Your Point of Attraction
11 Apr 2022 · 17 min
In this solo episode of the One Life podcast, host Donnie Rouse reflects on a challenging five‑month period, a birthday trip to Ireland, and the insight that his internal mindset—what he calls the "frequency"—shapes his external experience. He shares a vivid car‑radio anecdote where a song suddenly became clear, using it as a metaphor for how attention and belief tune reality. Rouse explores concepts of the "not‑mind" versus the thinking mind, the power of present‑moment awareness, and simple breath‑focus techniques to shift mood. He walks listeners through a series of self‑inquiry questions to identify unwanted thoughts, desired emotions, and concrete focus points, linking these to the practice of manifesting and habit formation (e.g., tongue‑jaw exercises, concentrated breathing from a manga). Throughout, he emphasizes the importance of sharing vulnerability, gratitude, and community support. The episode closes with a call to action: listeners are invited to reflect on their own frequency, share their struggles, and subscribe or comment via his website.

Most people spend their entire life stressed without ever giving a single thought as to what it is they really want or what's important to them. See, I'm here to cut through all that noise connecting you to yourself and the life that you were meant to live. I used to slave away at a corporate job that I hated, but I broke through the social norms and pursued my passion. As a result, I own my own coffee company, I'm espresso sommelier, and I get to travel the world. You too can live a life that you love, but it starts with getting clear about what you want. It starts with a new decision. I'm your host, Donnie Rouse. You are listening to the podcast One Life. What's the frequency? You may have heard the quote that says life like attracts like. So we are the creators of our experience. So whether you're experiencing joy, passion, excitement, or you're experiencing pain, overwhelm and stress, we are the creators of our experience. And it kind of goes with the saying that where does life happen? Like, our senses tell us what's going on in the world around us and then it's our minds that are making this interpretation of all this jumble that we take in. So life is really happening on the inside. Life is happening somewhere in here. And these are just sense organs that give us feedback and stimuli. But everything is happening in your mind. Recently I was. I'd been going through kind of like a downturn, I would say, or a correction, we'll use better language for it. But the last five months or so have been some of the most challenging months that I've had. And I'm not going to go into what exactly transpired, but it was accompanied by feelings of feeling alone. I just came back from Ireland. I was in Ireland for my birthday and this trip was different from other trips. And when I was talking to people and I was sharing the experience of what exactly would happen in Ireland and I noticed that I would go into this whole rant about how, yeah, the country is beautiful, but. And I was really showering it with a lot of buts. But then I asked myself a different question. I was like, well, how would the experience have been different if I went to Portugal or anywhere else? When I asked myself that question, the answer I got was that, well, no, the experience wouldn't have changed at all because it was what I was bringing into the experience that was giving me that experience. The result? The experience. I was at my sister in law's last night. We. I'd gotten pizza for my birthday and had A few of my siblings up there, and we were just kind of having pizza, a few drinks on the way back home. I was. I had a headache, so I didn't bother driving home. My sister ended up driving home for me. And while we were in the car, she commented. It was kind of funny. She commented how, like, this was the worst. Like, I was playing, like, the worst driving music. I wasn't even. It was. The radio was on because I didn't feel like looking at my phone because my eyes were hurting from the blue light. And then I started to laugh. So I changed. I put in, like, 99.9, and there was a song that was playing in the background. And the song was kind of coming in and out, and I wasn't sure what it sounded like. It kind of had, like, some remnants of a song that I was familiar with, but I couldn't identify it. And then as we kept driving, all of a sudden it tuned in. It was How Will I Know? By Whitney Houston. I would not have even guessed that in a million years. I was like, oh, my God, that's so funny. How the hell it sounded Nothing like that. Literally five seconds ago. And that's when it clicked to me. I was like, well, wow. It's because the frequency. Like, the. We became receptive to the frequency of that channel. And all of a sudden, now the song that was playing became clear and in tune. And I thought, well, how true is that of life? And I couldn't help but to reflect on everything I had been experiencing in the last five months, asking questions. Why was I unhappy with my. With the work I've been doing? Why have I been feeling anxious about this? Why have I been feeling alone? Why have I been feeling all these different things? And when I traced it back to the thoughts that I was having, I was, well, no shit, of course I'm going, because I'm asking shitty questions. I'm putting my focus in areas that it shouldn't go. And literally, it was a downward spiral. Thankfully, I have some close people to me that I very, very much value that helped me see that. I realized that I have friends that I can connect with and talk to, and I'll have to keep all the stuff bottled inside, pretending like that everything's perfect. So as I was doing that, I said, all right, well, this is the experience I've been having, and this is not the experience I want to have going forward. Something has to change. I coincidentally started reading this book. It was something about manifesting. Manifesting, as you read, I think was the name, the title of the book, and one of the things they go into in this book was identifying the not mind from the mind. So basically, what it's saying is the present experience, the present moment, is that when you're in that present moment, nothing else exists because you're not living in the past, and you're not living in fear or anticipating the future. You're in the present where everything happens. The future moment is in the present. So in this. This idea of being the not mind or being in that present moment came the practice of just the breathing, focusing on the breath. So a reason I say this was because it's like putting your focus on something different. So now when I was feeling. When I would go into feeling, maybe anxious or something, I would go back to the breath and go back to feeling in that present moment, separating out, like. Kind of like shutting out that thought, not shutting it out, but putting the focus so that the intention is not going ahead or behind me. And it kind of. It softened and calmed me down. So in the car ride home, now I'm like, all right, well, what has to change? What. What questions? Like, what is the experience I want to have in life? Let's ask yourself a few questions. What. What are the experience you've been having? What are the questions you've been having? Where have you been putting your thoughts? Because you need to become conscious, you need to become aware of that before you can even start to change. And then secondly, was, what is it that you want to experience? For me, those guiding experiences. I want to experience joy, passion. I want to experience excitement. I want to feel in awe. When I look out in the world, when I literally just wake up in the morning, I want to feel that, and I want to feel gratitude. Then what questions do I have to ask myself in order to feel that? And sometimes asking that question could be a challenge because you're like, well, I don't know what kind of. Well, what would I have to focus on? Because then sometimes that doesn't even work, right? You're like, well, what would I have to focus on? And you literally will spin. But we've all had those moments where we felt excited, passionate, grateful. So the better question is, imagine yourself in that situation. Think of a moment in that moment. What was that you were focusing on? What were the thoughts you were having? What were the beliefs about life? Now all of a sudden, everything becomes crystal clear. Now you understand and you know what the formula is for the mindset to give you. Exactly. It is what it is you want So, I mean, this is. All. This stuff is going on in my head as I'm driving home after a few drinks. So it's amazing what a few glasses of wine and a couple of Peronis can do. But it brought to the awareness I was just. It made me realize, like, wow, everything that's been going on in my life right now, the experience has been my own. Creating life is not happening to you. Like, you are not the manager of your circumstances. You are the creator of your circumstances. One of my favorite quotes, I think Tony Robbins said it. I don't even know if it's his quote, but it puts you in the driving seat of your life and makes you realize, well, all right, well, what does he experience? What is it that I do not want to experience? So I know what I do want to experience, and once I know what to experience, what do I have to do in order to get me there? When you talk about manifesting, they're like, well, you want to manifest. You want to just kind of let this divine intelligence kind of download into you. So this way you move forward free and without. Without resistance. But you kind of have to know what it is you're going for, right? I mean, at least have a general aim and some detail. And it may be even a timestamp. So the purpose I, like, I'd heard another quote saying, like, the purpose of a timestamp isn't to cause you stress, it's to understand, well, what do you have to do in order to get there in that time frame? Because I've done the thing where, like, I've like, well, I'll just let the universe decide. I'll let things fall into place. And sometimes that does really work, right? If I hold things too hard, they usually don't happen. When I hold them very loosely, things just kind of flow and things happen. So maybe that's the. Maybe that's the answer. But going back to the questions, the intention of doing this was to share with you just like, some of the experiences I was having. So this way you could look in your own life. Because what I realized, I was sharing my traveling experiences with three of my friends. They all were abroad around the same time that I was abroad, and they were all had a similar experience. So I was trying to figure out, what could this be? And I'll do an episode just like on my Ireland trip and do like, called the Ireland Recap or something like that. But I was like, well, what's the common denominator? I thought about, well, we're all like, I'm 41. One of my friends is 48. And I think my other friend is probably upper 30s, in her early 40s, too. I was like, well, maybe it's age. Maybe age is the thing. I was like, no, I don't know if it is. Well, then we're like, well, maybe it was Covid. Maybe it was like the last two years that maybe the energies of the world are just weird. And because we went out there, that's what we were experiencing. I don't think that was it either. I completely take credit for what I experienced, because I know that I was bringing. It was everything that I was bringing to the experience, not what the experiences were bringing me. So let's go to those questions one more time. What is it that you are currently experiencing that is not comfortable? And you may be completely, you know, you may be the opposite. You may be living your best life right now. But I want to focus on. Maybe just focus on one of those areas where things aren't really lining up. It's causing you a little bit of stress. What are the thoughts, the beliefs that are keeping you in there that are making. That you're attracting those. Those feelings, those energies to you? Sometimes you get a belief that you're. You're not enough, or that you'll never make it, or whatever it may be. The next thing is, what is it that you want to feel? Because once you have the awareness that this is what you've been attracting, now all of a sudden you say, well, you know what? I have a choice. I could decide to do something different. And it's not always going to be easy. I was watching this manga. It's called Demon Slayer. And in this particular episode, the Tanjiro who's the main character, is trying to master this thing called concentrated breathing, where he. Whatever he's doing the entire, like, whether he's training, whether he's fighting, whether he's sleeping, he's trying to maintain this perfect breath. And he struggles with it because it's, you know, while it's easy in concept, I mean, how easy is it just to literally take a full lung's breath and then fully exhale? It's easy. I mean, you could do it right now, it's easy. But now think about maintaining that throughout your day becomes kind of a challenge, especially if you're trying to focus on something, because now you can't focus on the breath. But the more work you put into it, the more it becomes a habit. I'll give you one more example. A friend of mine was talking about. We were talking about jaw alignment and sleeping or something like that. And he was telling me about this. I can't remember the name of it, where you put your tongue up towards the roof of your mouth and it's supposed to strengthen, bring your jaw forward, align your jaw and something. I. I don't even. I don't even know why I'm mentioning this. But anyways, so I started doing this for once he mentioned it to me. I started doing it for like the. The evening and the. The following day. And at first I noticed that it was. I was having a challenge. Kind of keep my tongue to the top of my mouth or like laid flat against the top of my mouth. By the second night, I was literally. I found myself waking up and autocorrecting to the point where I was doing it over and over. The real realization was that I didn't need to do that because I feel like my jaw was already kind of pushing forward and I didn't want to mess myself up. But the concept, the theory was there. The theory was that anything that you do over and over and over, you have to put a lot of consciousness into it. But then once you do it, all of a sudden now it becomes habitual, it becomes natural. So going back to it, what is it that you want? What is it that you want to experience? What are the emotions? What is the job, whatever it may be, and what is it that you have to put your. Where do you have to put your focus in order to bring those things to you? Imagine yourself being in that state of receiving or being grateful or having that job. Where do you have to put your focus? Sometimes it requires you to be grateful for the things you already have. Like, if you're in a job that you hate and you're constantly complaining about what it is that you are unsatisfied with, then trying to find that career or whatever it is that really excites you might be a challenge because you're in this energy of hating and discomfort and dislike. So it's a matter of maybe switching, then saying, okay, well, what is it about this that I can appreciate? What is it that I could be grateful for? And bringing good energy to that. So all of a sudden now you shed that. You kind of like, shed that black veil and you open yourself up to something lighter, other possibilities. That is all I've got for you guys today. I wanted to share that. Like I said, it's been a. It's been a challenging last five months, but thankfully I'm Feeling better now. I've had friends. Like I said, it's been funny. Like, I have a hard time sharing some of my, like, my deepest feelings and thoughts with some people because I feel like maybe they won't understand. But the truth is, like, we're all going through. We all. Everyone is fighting their own battle. And one of the things that makes us see Ida and see each other as human is when we share those things that we've gone, the struggles that we're going through. Because all of a sudden then you're like, you know, like, when people share things with me, I'm like, that's it. Oh, don't worry about it. That's nothing. You're fine. And all of a sudden they're like, oh, wow. They breathe and they're like, fine. And the same thing happens to me when they tell me I say the things that I'm worrying about or the things, the things that are on my mind. People are like, what are you doing? Like, everything is perfectly fine. I would love to live your life and travel and do all these things. So it just puts things in perspective and it lets you realize that you're not alone. So if you are ever feeling that, share it with someone that you care about, someone you know that you can share those things with that won't judge you or who will just be supportive.
