Hi, guys. My name is Donny Rouse and you are listening to the podcast One Life where the grass is Green. Do you ever compare yourself and think, oh, my God, I wish I was in that person's shoes? They seem to have it so perfect and figured out. In doing so, then you compare to your own life, and those comparison usually doesn't make you feel good. There's a quote I'm sure you've heard before, says the grass is greener where it's been watered, meaning when you're looking at the beauty, the gifts in your own life, that's where the grass is green. So often people compare their lives to other people and it's a false comparison because we're human by nature and by that very nature everyone's going through. Everyone has their own problems, their own struggles that they do right, because it never ends. Life is a growing process. So by the end of this, my intention for you is to be able to kind of take a step back, to look at your life and be like, you know what? Where have I been comparing myself? Where have I been taking things for granted? Where have I been looking, wishing I was in someone else's shoes rather than saying, you know what? Everything is great right here? If you listen to the completion of this episode, I believe that you will achieve that. I was talking with some friends and I'll change the. I won't even use names, actually. And in the conversations, I was explaining how I have to. The things I have to do because I'm getting ready to take a trip to Turkey. And then maybe some other conversations had come up where I was telling about trips to Asia, trips to Europe, and all these experiences that I had. And in the first one, the. In the first conversation with one of my female friends, she goes, oh, my God. She goes, you live the life. I'm like, really? You really think so? Because I would get stuck in my head sometimes, too, comparing myself to what everyone else is doing, feeling like, oh, well, all my friends are having kids now. Oh, my God. I don't really. I don't even have a girlfriend right now, so what am I going to do? When am I going to have kids? And it's not even like I want it right now, to be honest with you. Right? But when you get in that mode of comparison, you tend to not think clearly. So I get into that too. When she said that, I laughed. You know what? That's funny because I would actually say the same thing to you. Like, you know, to you and looking at other people. But thank you for that, because I sometimes I don't realize the blessings in my own life that, like, this is how I get to live. This is the life that I created. Another friend of mine, someone I just spoke to yesterday, we were playing kickball. And yes, people still play kickball, and it's fun, and it's much more difficult than it was at the age of like, 9 or 10. You try to hit that ball straight on and just seems like the flop, and it's difficult to catch, too. But another conversation. So I was hokey with my friend, and we were. I was telling him how I'm not going to be at the game the following week because I'm going to be away in Istanbul. He's all right, well, then I'll see you the week after. I'm like, well, actually, I won't be here for that game either. So he's like, oh, man, you have the life. And then I told him. I was like, well, yeah, and this is. I enjoy it. I was like, but don't, you know, don't look at my life and say, you have a life. Because each of us has. All of our lives are blessed, right? And where people kind of often go wrong is that we compare ourselves without looking at the blessings in our life. So with the case of my friend, well, both of them, actually, because both of them are parents, thinking about, all right, well, what are the blessings of your life? Where are you judging yourself? Or where are you giving, like, comparison? That's not really true. Like, what are the blessings in your life? I know quite a few parents, and I would say that nearly every single one of them, their kids, they wouldn't change anything. They wouldn't. They would give up. They would give their own life for their children. So looking at that, right? That's a blessing. That's a gift. How about. I mean, you can look at anything, your career, your friends, your family. I'll tell you one of the things that I feel from the road. Like, I have friends all over the world, but sometimes I feel really disconnected as well, because I have all these friends and, like, I want to, you know, I want to meet, I want to see them all, I want to spend time with them all. But it's kind of difficult because they're all spread out. Not to say that I don't have friends here, but sometimes it's different connection. Or maybe I haven't really fueled, like, the connection here at home, but you probably have some really, really good friends that maybe you take for granted. Maybe you haven't been thinking about them and how blessed you are to have them in your life. It's another thing. So I want to kind of wrap it up here. When we think the grass is green to the side, what we're really doing is we're robbing ourselves of, like, the richness of life, right? Because at any given point, both arguments are true. The only thing that makes it true is where you put your focus. The question that you're asking yourself as to what makes it better, what makes it worse. So ask yourself a better question. So let's bring it down. We're going to complete this. Let's give you some homework to work on. Where do you compare yourself? Write it down. Next, I want you to say, why is it stupid to compare yourself to this other person or this person who's having this experience? Why is it stupid? And then what are the blessings you have? Question number three. What are the blessings you have in your life that you wouldn't trade for anything or that maybe you overlooked when doing this comparison? If you notice anything from those three questions, you'll notice that it's a matter of reframing and rephrasing the questions so that you get to focus on the things that are beautiful in your life. You get to focus on the things that are important to you, where you get to focus on your gifts, your blessings, and you get to feel full inside because from that place, you can create anything. You can create any reality you want. But when you're in that mode of comparison, what you're doing is actually pushing it away. I hope you enjoy this podcast, guys.
