Anger masks deeper emotions like fear, disrespect, and shame. Solving the problem without addressing each layer leaves pressure behind. Real resolution means sitting with the feeling until each one releases, reaching a silence that means nothing's left unresolved.

When someone is upset, what you see on the surface is almost never the whole story. There is nearly always anger visible first, but underneath the anger there is usually fear or disrespect. Underneath that, more often than not, there's a shame or abandonment that's driving the emotion. Every difficult conversation that escalates does so because someone named the surface emotion, got a confirmation, and immediately tried to solve the problem. They thought they were done. They weren't. The brain does not fully regulate on one label. It regulates layer by layer. Think of it like pressure in a pipe. You can release the first valve and feel the flow ease, but if there are 3 or more valves behind it, the pressure is still there. Move to solutions too soon and it all comes flooding back, often harder than before. The fix is simple, but almost nobody does it. Keep going. You're angry. You feel disrespected. And underneath that, you're scared this is never going to change. Stay with it until there are no emotions left. That silence feels different, and you'll know when you're there.
