This is a YouTube video titled "$2 Million Mistake" containing a monologue or personal account discussing the financial consequences of underpaying disability insurance premiums, shared on May 3, 2024. The speaker reflects on the impact of their decision and the resulting loss in benefits.
I made a $2 million mistake because I didn't want to pay an extra $800 a year in premiums. Do you wish you'd bought more disability insurance? I really do. Yeah. So the one of the mistakes I made is I got cheap with my premiums. Seeing the premiums increase was really painful. And so when I stopped utilizing that future benefit increase rider, that ended up being a $2 million mistake. Right. I'm very grateful for the $7,000 a month tax free that I received from principal. That's adjusted for inflation. And if I would have continued to utilize my increased rider, I'd be getting maybe 10 or $12,000 a month tax free. And when I started collecting in my late 30s on a policy that pays out till age 65, and when you account for the adjustment in inflation, I made a $2 million mistake because I didn't want to pay an extra $800 a year in premiums.
