A talk on using credit card rewards and travel hacking to fund trips without overspending. The speaker explores how to balance the pursuit of points and miles with actual financial goals, treating it as a hobby rather than an excuse to spend money you don't have.
A lot of people find a lot of value out of this hobby. Out of credit card hacking. When I'm introducing this topic, I usually start off with talking about why I do it, why this is of interest to me. Number one, credit card hacking and travel hacking, however you want to call, prevents me from having to always do so much delayed gratification to meet my financial goals. There's this tug between YOLO and fiscal responsibility. There's this tug between I only live once, I want to buy what I want because it would bring me joy and I actually should save and maybe invest for retirement. So there's this tug, right? I want to do this other thing, but I know I should do this thing and I find that travel hacking and credit card hacking prevents me from always having to make that choice. The second thing I find is that doing this hobby prevents me from leaving free money on the table.
