A doctor discusses when to keep universal life insurance, especially if you've had cancer or disability. The speaker covers mortgages, student loans, and how your career stage affects whether you should hold onto an existing policy.
When you do not qualify to get life insurance and you have life insurance, hold on to the life insurance you have Doc that has had cancer, was on disability for a year. Now two years of presumably cancer free and working full time, no longer disabled has an expensive universal life policy. I want to tell you first of all I think you made the right decision taking that policy with you in whatever form they let you take it. Now obviously it's great if you can take it as a term policy. So sounds like maybe the only way they let you do it was this universal life policy. When you do not qualify to get life insurance and you have life insurance, hold on to the life insurance you have. Now this assumes you actually have a life insurance need. You talk about having a mortgage, you talk about having some student loans, you talk about being relatively early career. I'm assuming you actually need the life insurance.
