This is a YouTube video titled "Why #Doctors Don't Get Disability Insurance" containing a monologue or talk discussing the likelihood of doctors becoming disabled during their careers, the psychological barriers doctors face in obtaining disability insurance, and the challenges related to knowledge and trust in this area. The content appears to be a single speaker explaining these issues, created in December 2024.
The likelihood of a doctor being disabled during the course of their career, I've seen as low as 1 in 7. I've seen as high as 1 in 4. I think the tried and true numbers, about 1 in 5 doctors go on some type of disability claim during the course of their career. So it's one of the most likely things you would insure. But doctors, because they know the body, they know medicine, they know all kinds of things. I don't know, there's just kind of this. I don't know if it's kind of that Superman complex or if it's the whatever else, but it's, oh, that's not going to happen to me. And shockingly, it does more than most people realize. But there's just that, hey, this is expensive. I don't fully understand it. I think that's a big barrier to entry. Who do I trust to help me understand it? Because I don't. And I don't just want all these salespeople bombarding me. So sometimes I think just trying to get over that hump of a lack of knowledge, a lack of knowing where to get the knowledge, and then actually paying for it. I think those are kind of some of the barriers.
