This is a short YouTube video by Dr. Lera Clone (Heron Lakes Animal Hospital) describing the case of Sunshine, a four-month-old Yorkie puppy recovering from surgery for a fractured arm sustained when she fell off a bed. The video explains this type of fracture is common in very small-breed dogs, notes the puppy's owner was in financial hardship, and summarizes options for financial assistance (foundations and rescue organizations). The speaker warns that many assistance programs require proof of financial need (Social Security number, tax returns) and points viewers to a link on the clinic website for a list of foundations, inviting submissions of additional resources.

Hey, guys, My name is Dr. Larrad here at Heron Lakes Animal Hospital. Today I'm here with Sunshine. Sunshine is a four month old Yorkie puppy and she came to us today because she's recovering from a fractured arm surgery. And so initially the story with Sunshine is that Sunshine was going to jump off the bed and mom didn't want her to jump off the bed because she's such a tiny little puppy. And when she went to jump off the bed, she tried to. Mom tried to stop her from doing it and unfortunately she kind of got off balance and she fell awkwardly and she broke her arm. When I spoke to the surgeon, this is actually one of the most common breaks in these smaller breed dogs. Now, when mom came to me, mom was telling me that, you know, we were having some financial. We were in a financial hard place. And so what I told mom was, I said, let's see what we can figure out. And fortunately enough for me, one of my clients works with a rescue organization. 100 plus is a short version of it. And I was talking to her about it and I was asking her about how to go ahead and raise funds for people who are in situations where they have difficulty affording the care that is necessary to get their pets out of pain and feeling better and on the road to recovery. And so mom had pointed. Mom had done some research, or her name is Jan. Jan did some research really quick and help find a link to a number of different foundations that go ahead and provide funding for people who are in a tough financial spot. Now, the thing with that, that you have to take into consideration is they are most likely going to ask for your Social Security, they're going to ask for your tax returns. You are going to have to prove that you are in a financial constraint. If you are uncomfortable doing that, then you are most likely not going to be able to qualify for those funds. And so I think that when you have a little baby like this that is in need of care and is in pain, we're willing to do whatever it takes to get them the care that they need. So if you guys have any questions about that kind of stuff, there's a little link that we have on our website and you can go ahead and take a look at it. And there's a number of different foundations. I'm sure there are more. If you guys happen to know of other ones that are not on our link, please let us know because we want to go ahead and add it to our website. So that way we can provide, provide as many options for people as possible and make sure that these little babies are getting the care that they need and deserve. Thanks for watching. Have a great day. And if you found this video helpful, please subscribe, Share and that's it.
