Veterinary clinical video in which Dr. Leria examines Hannah, a French bulldog with swollen, thickened paws likely due to seasonal allergies. The doctor notes bacterial involvement, prescribes short-term steroids for inflammation and comfort, recommends foot-wiping after being outside, omega-3/turmeric dietary supplements, and discusses long-term allergy medications (Apocril, Cytopoint, Atopica) with periodic blood work because of immunosuppressive effects. The clip ends with viewer engagement prompts.
My name is Dr. Laria. Today I'm here with Hannah and Hannah is a French bulldog and she's coming in. Abraham, if you want to get in close for this, she's coming in because.
She'S got these swollen feet. Okay. I know you're sniffing the camera. And so if you guys notice she's got some thickening around the toes here and even in between the toes a little bit, you'll see some swollen tissue around here. And also over here you can see that you can't even see the separation. She doesn't have that thigh gap, or.
We call it toe gap between the toes. And so that's something that's very, very common in the bulldog breeds. The bulldogs that are prone are extremely prone to allergies. And the allergies typically will go ahead and manifest themselves in a number of different ways. In this particular case, in this dog's feet are super, super swollen, very uncomfortable. Mom says that she's chewing on them non stop. And so what I told mom was that we want to see if there's any sort of bacterial component to it, which there is. And then what we're going to do is we're going to give her some steroids just to kind of reduce the inflammation, make her feel more comfortable. And then we're going to go ahead and see how she's doing in a week. And most likely, if not this time around, sometime in the future, she will most likely have to be on long term management for allergies. That would include in her particular case, wiping down her feet whenever she comes in from being outside. So she's going to wipe the top of the feet and she's also going to wipe the bottom of the feet and she's got to wipe in between the toes. Secondly, the other thing that we may have to do is you're going to want to make sure that we're on some sort of omega 3 fatty acids and or turmeric and or allergies. Okay. The last thing that we'll want to do is there may be a medication like Apocril, Cytopoint or, or atopica are the most common allergy medications that we use to go ahead and manage seasonal allergies. Okay. Otherwise, you know, whenever we use any of those drugs, you want to make sure that you are doing blood work long term. Just because those are immunosuppressive drugs. The hope is to go ahead and bring the immune system down to a normal level, not to an immunosuppressed level. Okay. Because when we see this kind of things. We anticipate it's because the immune system is having an overreaction to something and we want to tell the immune system, hey, chill out. You don't need to get so crazy. Okay? Thank you. See, she appreciates the love. I appreciate the love. It's nothing but love here. So if you guys have any questions about this particular video, please leave it in the comment box.
