In this brief conversational excerpt, Speaker B shares a personal anecdote about meeting and working with legendary salesman Zig Ziglar in the mid‑1990s. Ziglar’s central teaching, as recounted, is that personal success comes from helping enough other people achieve what they want. The dialogue underscores the mentor‑mentee relationship and highlights the core sales philosophy of service and reciprocity.
There's an old saying that the salesman Zig Ziglar, he said that you can get what you want if you help other people solve their problems.
I love you said it because Zig Ziglar is my number one mentor. I met Zig, worked for Zig in mid-'90s, mid to late '90s, and that was the one thing that he told me. Two things that's always stuck with me. Number one, if you want to get something out of life, all you got to do is help enough other people get what they want out of life.
You met him?
I worked for him. I never knew that. Worked for him for almost a full year. And we were going around to different mortgage companies selling his product, his sales skills, and he would go with me. Taught me. And so, and this is the second thing he taught me, because I get so mad. We'd go up there and do this amazing presentation, be 20, 30 loan officers in there, and we do this and nobody would buy a product. I'm like, dude, or they would and then they would never perform. And I'm like, Zig, what is— what am I doing wrong? He goes, you're overthinking this. You got to understand, people will do exactly what they want to do. That's profound. And so that's why he was the man.
