Liberty, liberty. Hi, I'm Dr. Cathryn Tobin, and welcome to the Toddlers Made Easy podcast. This is the bite-sized, no-fluff show where we cut through the noise and get straight to what matters. Today I want to do something a little different. I've been receiving so many questions about my brand new book, Toddlers Made Easy, that I thought I'd take a moment to answer them all right here. I want to give you a behind the scenes look into why I wrote this book and what it offers to parents of toddlers. So the first question was, tell us about yourself. Well, I'm Dr. Cathryn Tobin, a pediatrician. With over 35 years of experience. Recently, I've shifted my focus to helping families through my podcast and social media. I'm also a mom to 4 amazing kids, a proud grandmother, and I have a great big golden doodle named Smudge, who's the best walking buddy you could ask for. So why did I write this book? Well, Toddlers Made Easy is actually my third parenting book. But it's been over 20 years since my last one. Writing another book wasn't really on my radar, but after multiple editors reached out, I realized parents today needed something new, something that provides quick, actionable tips that you can use in just 5 minutes a day. Parents are some of the busiest people out there, and I wanted to create something that doesn't feel overwhelming or is hugely time-consuming. My goal was to write a book that helps take the stress out of parenting with simple solutions that build your confidence, and no PhD in child psychology is needed. The next question was, well, why do I focus on toddlers? In my office, I look after kids of all ages, so why on social media do I focus on toddlers? When your child is a baby, you respond to their needs quickly, and that's what's expected. But as soon as they start moving and exploring, we often see them as little troublemakers. And it's so important to remember that toddlers are just big babies. They're still learning about the world, and they need guidance, not punishment, to build their self-esteem and confidence. These early years are the foundation for everything that follows. So Toddlers Made Easy is all about helping you see things through your toddler's eyes. For example, when you ask your toddler to leave the playground and they throw a full-blown tantrum, it's not misbehavior really, and it's their way of saying they're overwhelmed. Or maybe they ask for a snack, but when you give it to them, they melt down even more. These are moments when your toddler needs your help. So how does Toddlers Made Easy differ from other books? Well, there's a lot of parenting books out there, but Toddlers Made Easy is different because it's all about what I call big-hearted parenting. I don't just give you behavioral management tips or charts to put up on the wall or stickers to praise your kids. I help you understand your toddler's development and how to respond in ways that protect their self-esteem and build confidence. For instance, when your toddler grabs a toy from another child, it's easy to just jump in and correct them. But at this age, they don't really understand about sharing. Or when they refuse to put on their shoes and run away giggling, it's not really defiance. They're still learning how to manage their impulses. Toddlers Made Easy will guide you through these moments with empathy and give you the tools that help your child grow in a positive, guilt-free way. What's the impact of your dual role as a pediatrician and mom? I thought that was a great question. Being both a pediatrician and a mom has given me a really unique perspective. I've experienced the late nights, the tantrums, the picky eating phases, everything that parents go through. And I know what's worth stressing over and what really isn't. My goal with this book is to share the tools that will help you stay calm and collected, even in the most challenging moments. How does Toddlers Made Easy make parenting simpler? This book isn't about spending hours reading or diving into complicated theories. It's all about quick, practical advice that actually works. You can read through a problem in less than 5 minutes. And I know you're busy, so each chapter's packed with simple tips you can remember and use to handle those toughest parenting challenges. What are the biggest struggles parents face and how does this book help? Well, I cover everything from power struggles to picky eating, tantrums, bedtime battles. With my signature EASY method, I help you manage these situations with calm and confidence, giving you an easy framework to fall back on when things are getting tough. These kinds of acronyms are especially helpful when you're feeling overwhelmed. And I know this because I used them all the time when I was in medical school. For example, imagine it's dinnertime. And your toddler won't eat anything but crackers, or maybe they keep hitting their sibling no matter how many times you ask them to stop. Well, Toddlers Made Easy helps you understand why these situations happen, and it gives you the strategies to respond in a way that helps your child grow while also keeping you from losing your cool. What aha moments can readers expect? Well, one of the biggest takeaways is that tantrums are just a toddler acting their age. The goal isn't to stop the tantrum, but to understand that your toddler is still learning and needs your guidance. I focus on what you can do in the moment to manage the situation and stay calm in the situation, but more importantly, how to teach your child when they're calm, because that's when the real learning happens. What feedback have I received so far? Well, the feedback has been incredible. I'm really happy with it. And here's what a few parents shared. Dr. Cathryn's advice on picky eating was spot on. My toddler's trying new foods without a fight. And that's from Megan T, who's the mom of a toddler. Another mom, Amanda K, said the bedtime tips in Toddlers Made Easy changed everything. No more battles, just calm, smooth evenings. Next is from Emma D, and she's a first-time parent, and she said, this book helped me see my toddler's behavior with more compassion. It's a must-read for every parent. The next question was, what's the impact do you hope Toddlers Made Easy will have on families? Well, I'm on a mission to end the term terrible twos. Toddlers are not terrible. They're growing and learning at an incredible pace, and we need to see their behavior through a generous, big-hearted lens. And I want parents to feel calm and confident knowing they have realistic expectations of their toddlers and understand what's really going on in those little minds. I'd love for the term terrible twos to just be something we only see in dictionaries. And for families to start calling this stage the Terribly Important Twos, because this is when your child is learning so much and needs big-hearted guidance more than ever. And my final thoughts are, if you're ready to stop feeling frustrated and overwhelmed at times and start truly understanding your toddler's world, Toddlers Made Easy is here to help. I can't wait for you to dive in and experience the power of Big Hearted Parenting. If this resonates with you, you'll find a link in the show notes if you'd like to grab a copy now.
